I imagine both will be in solitary for the duration, else they will not survive twelve months.
naomi, whole life tariffs are only ever issued on multi murderers . Never on a murderer / murderers who killed only one victim, no matter how brutal or harrowing the circumstances. Every one of the people in your list had killed at least 3 people in separate unrelated incidents. There was one person who shot a policeman while attempting to escape and got a whole life tariff, but it was reduced on appeal.
Eddie, so when you said, "It is simply not possible to sentence them to a 'whole life term' no matter how bad the crime", you didn't mean that whole life terms are never imposed on anyone. Okay.
Jackdaw yes they will be in solitary for their own protection. But such is the hate among prisoners for child killers that they will not be safe no matter how much the prison service tries to protect them. Womens jails are far worse for violent towards child killers than even the 'hardest' mail prison.
Only the very worst female offenders get sentenced to prison and they will all be competing against each other to try and be the first to hurt these two.
The warders hate such prisoners even more than the prisoners do, even if it is only because they make their job so much harder. There will be times when a warder 'accidently' leaves one of these two for a few seconds and that will be enough!
naomi, I meant what I said. Whole life tariffs are only able to be considered on those who have been convicted of more than one murder. The exception that allowed it on some one who killed a policeman in the act of committing a crime was quashed when an appeal against sentence was allowed on the only 'police killer' to have been given a whole life tariff.
Okay. I understand what you're saying.

Probably not, but I read a while back that Ian Huntley is confined in a cage within a cage for his own protection.
I doubt that there will be a slaying any time soon. The chance of a whaling ship slipping stealthily into one of Betty's correctional facilities is vanishingly
small.

EDDIE51 ... you've absolutely said everything I wanted to say but had no words for ,
I commented on a newspaper article and I was astounded at the amount of people who wanted them to hang! They clearly don't understand that's what they want ! Also a lot thought it would be a cushy number being in jail .... does anyone realistically think being banged up in solitary is a cushy number for the rest of your living days ?
They'll take their own lives , mark my words , I hope they don't but they will.
divebuddy, I have worked inside a prison as a tutor. A lot of 'suicides' are no such thing. It just saves a lot of problems if a death is recorded as suicide.
But actual murders inside jail committed by other prisoners are rare. The reason is not that the others are not willing or able to kill, it is worse than that. They want them to live but to be in agony and constant fear of what will happen to them next. The view is that 'Death is too good for them' as it releases them from the 'hell' of life, they want them to live so that they can inflict constant pain and retribution. For a child killer / abuser death is the easy option!
I just hope the surviving children are lavished with love and affection and don't become scarred for life.
That's quite a post Eddie. If the 'suicides' aren't suicide "actual murders inside jail committed by other prisoners are rare", who's doing the killing?
^I wondered that too.
Lets hope that the surviving kids are adopted by warm and loving parents, far away from where they have grown up. Kids are usually much more resilient that we give them credit for, and my guess is that they will be fine.
Eddie?
Someone is found in a cell having 'hanged themselves'. They were on 'suicide' watch so should not have been able to get hold of a belt or anything similar. But somehow they managed to 'find' one just at the same time the warders were changing shifts and so were unable to check on them.
A prisoner falls from the landing or roof he/she is very unpopular a child abuser for example. There were a number of other prisoners near by but no warders in sight. The other prisoners all say he jumped of his own accord. The warders as sure he was pushed but there is no proof so it goes down as suicide.
Until you have been inside a prison you will never believe the number of ways a death can be put down as suicide or accident No way to get evidence, prisons are very short staffed and just can't keep a constant watch. The police will not investigate, they are just not interested. One more out of the way is how they view it.
