I have never been so confident that those two ,in particular, will ever be released .
I don't want to go down the hang 'em high route as I'd rather they'd live the rest of their miserable lives ,without each other, in a torturous existence.

Unfortunately such vile creatures do exist, I can't post what I really think of them. They are safer behind bars for their own safety if I had my way. However my heart goes out to the surviving youngsters.

I think that they should be locked up and the key thrown away. The horrors that they subjected that little boy too were absolutely disgusting.

But I must also say the 23.5 years and 24 years seems like a very strong sentence for me and its likely that these two will die in prison.

Here we go again!
It is simply not possible to sentence them to a 'whole life term' no matter how bad the crime. They have been given 'life' with the maximum possible tariff of 24 years for one of them and a tariff just 6 months short of the maximum for the other.
As I always have to point out on these occasions they have NOT been sentenced to 23.5 or 24 years, they have been sentenced to 'life'.
The tariff is just the minimum time that has to pass before they can even start the process of applying for release on licence. It will take several more years after the tariff time to actually put in the first request for release and then more time for it to be considered. I agree that these two will almost certainly never be released .

It's certainly shocking - and goes against the natural order. Parents are supposed to be the guardians of their charge's well-being. Not the architects of their deaths.

My assumption is that these two will be treated like the Moors Murderers. Whilst they don't have a life term, they effectively do have a life term because the chances of any Home Secretary releasing them is ultra-thin.

SP...what I am concerned about is the role of the authorities in all of this.

All of these terrible deaths were 100% avoidable....How many more Victoria Climbié's or Daniel Pelka's are we going to have, before the authorities pull their fingers out ?

That doesn't appear to be right. Here's a list of people who were sentenced to whole life tariffs.

sp1814. Believe me I have not a shred of sympathy for these evil people!
It is just that every time there is a case similar to this reported we get the same outraged protest about 'Idiot Judges' 'lenient sentences' and demands that they be locked up for ever. When the truth is that a Judge can only sentence according to the law, no matter what the circumstances.
The 'tariff' is always quoted as the date the offender will be released, and not as what it actually is, the minimum time that has to pass before the offender can even begin the process of applying for parole.
Finally 'Life' really does mean LIFE, contrary to the popular view on AB.
An offender sentenced to 'life' can only ever be 'released on licence'. The life sentence remains in place and can be reactivated at any time if the licence conditions are not complied with. They can be recalled to jail without a further trial or conviction.
