we used to call people 'Dingbats' when they had been particularly stupid or annoying, or stupidly annoying, can we still use that term these days without causing offence? ( not that i care who i offend like)

dotty in my day they were called stupid barstewards not dingbats.

I've never heard people referred to as dingbats Dotty. I thought dingbats were puzzles like rebuses or conundrums.

no we used to call people Dingbats, I'm goin to find out where it started, i think it was on a TV show

Me? I'm 32, but I look 25.
I wouldn't ask Dotty that Ummm but I'm 48. We used to call people lots of things but I never heard of Dingbats. Perhaps it's a regional thing. I'm just north of London.

Dingbat - slang term used to describe someone silly, noteably applied to the TV character Edith Bunker by her husband Archie.
That sounds about right Dotty. I can just see Bobby Ball calling someone that as he twanged his braces!
