Yesterday I waved my OH off on his one month holiday in the motor home to Spain, got my time well planned so no problem. He set off to go to Portsmouth, camping in ferry carpark over night and catching ferry this morning. I had phonecall from him at 10.00 to say he was coming back home. He had missed his bl***y ferry, it went yesterday and the next one is not until Sunday. He hadn't looked at his ferry details since he booked it 5 months ago. I actually asked him if he had sorted all his tickets and had got everything to be told don't be stupid I know what I'm doing and everything is ok. If there is a c*ckup to be done he's your man. Is this a typical man thing or not?

Not.
Yip! (although mr mac is actually much more organised than me and checks everything about 100 times - but all the other men I know are just like your OH)
He is going to regret those words of his for a long time - with your help, carandrog :o)
Typical.....
Agree with MarkRae
Not typical at all.
Bang goes all that lazing about and those lovely long shopping trips caran.
Only done it once - got to the airport a day early but BA had loads of seats......I was under a lot of stress at the time, wanted to be out, and didn't look.

I do check tickets and timing (and things like passports\) meticulously - maybe its all those female hormones in me. Now where's my nightie, its bed time I think!
I'm a man and I'm not at all like this. Even now I am completely in control of . . . burning, you say? No, I turned it out an hour ag.... Oh s**t, call the fire brigade. Well, throw it out the window. No, open it first, woman, do I have to do everything myself?

I normally check everything, we went to France on holiday in the motorhome no problem going, coming back, going through customs etc they asked for passports (going you just waved your passport at them) handed them over, they asked for mine, I said you have it, they said we have 2 bearded mens passports, I looked at them one was OH the other was my brothers. The previous Christmas we had rented a cottage in France and all the family came, how the heck I had brothers passport instead of mine I do not know. They didn't want to let me back in the country saying I hadn't left, I was panicking, it took nearly 2 hours before they would let me into GB.
I learnt my lesson, I double check everything now.
Not me. I put tickets, passports, car hire documents, driving licence, travel insurance etc into a pack which I check again and again before we leave. I then check it just before we leave, as we leave, once we are in the car, at the airport etc.

It's almost OTT but I don't understand how some people - men and women - are the opposite and 'forget' to pack documents or get the details wrong.
couldnt he have slept in the motorhome until sunday morning instead of driving back home...just a thought,,,,

No electric hookup, couldn't get a signal for most tv stations and he was cold!! had to rely on gas heating which is not as good as electric when on hookup plus missed his home comforts!!
Are motor homes that luxurious then C? Couldn't he do without TV for a night or two and put some extra clothes on?

My first wife used to stay with her sister for a week every May holiday. I really looked forward to her going as we didn't get on and I would have been furious if she hadn't gone! I came in with the dog once to find she had come back early - and I hadn't washed up since she'd left! There was hell to pay!

Motorhomes can be quite good, when we are hooked up to lecky we have tv, laptop,.microwave, hotwater, fridge, shower and a lot more, some are available on the battery but quite limited. I can understand him coming home until Saturday when he will go again and this time he has booked into hotel £30 full english breakfast, I did point out van had all that for free but he knows best ha ha.
Wow,

We spent two weeks touring Scotland in a Ford Transit camper van in 1976. We stopped at camp sites every night but it was still pretty basic. Things have obviously changed a bit since then.
Question Author
they certainly have, we do not miss any home comfrts when we are away
We are still on 70's style when it comes to camper vans! In the middle of converting an old LDV minibus, took it up to Scotland last year, no fridge, no TV or laptop, no shower, in fact not even a sink! Stil seemed like the height of luxury compared to camping though!
and yes caran, nothing would get organised if it were left up to my husband!
