My sister is currently on holiday in Majorca, and has just been informed that the company with whom she booked the hotel with has gone bankrupt and the transaction was not carried out so therefore the hotel are demanding her to pay it again, before she leaves, the travel insurance will not cover her for this as she is aleady there. Is there anything she can do?

Please clarify which transaction was not carried out?
First, she needs to make sure the company HAS gone bankrupt and it is not a scam.

Then contact the local UK embassy or consulate or whatever they call them.

I would have thought the holiday company would have paid the hotel up front BEFORE she took the holiday so I would be surprised if the hotel did not have the money.

They may just be trying it on.

the hotel are saying that the room transaction at the hotel where are stopping has not been received but they have been there for nearly a week.
Was the company an ABTA member if so, worth contacting them.

Did she pay ANY of the cost with her credit card, if so, she should contact her credit company, as they are legally obliged to get involved.

how do I find out if it's and ABTA company?
try googlng the name of the company as well as abta.
The only ABTA member which has ceased trading within the last month is Freedom Direct Holidays (which traded as holidaysyoulike.co.uk, holidaysyoulike.com, hotsunholidays.co.uk and snowdeals.co.uk).
