Back from holiday

Just got back from holiday - had an absolutely wonderful time The weather was absolutely glorious and we all got wonderful tans although I understand that a lot of the rest of the country has had horrendous weather.

We stayed in Canterbury on the way down and visited Dover, Hever, Leeds & Walmer castles from Deal and also went to Sandwich & Rye. We stayed in Cambridge on the way back.

We also called in at Capel le Ferne - what a beautiful place and the Battle of Britain memorial was amazing.

Gran, I'm glad you liked our county - and yes, Capel le Ferne is very moving. Our Air Cadet band performs at events up there - a lovely site.

How did you like Dover Castle? - one of my favourite places, I used to be able to see it from my bedroom window, and imagine the knights of old clanking around up there...

Glad you enjoyed your hols. I 've got a tan in Lincolnshire, it's called rust. Been here 10 years and we have never had it so wet.

Pleased your holiday went well. I,ve just returned from a cruise "Round Great Britian" people thought we were going crackers when we booked it. It was fab, weather was good, wonderful views of the Western Isles and the North of Scotland

I spent most of my early life in Kent boxtops. My husband is a Yorkie and the friends who accompanied us one is a Yorkie & one a Brummie and they were very impressed with 'down south'. Dover Castle was amazing. My dad was stationed there after the war and it was quite emotional thinking about him as we went round the tunnels. Our friends went down the medieval tunnels and they said that was quite spooky. Yes lovely to go back - we needed a couple more weeks to do everything we wanted to do

We stayed at the Lord Byron (formerly The Unicorn) at Trumpington and used Park and Ride. We only had a couple of hours on Friday and so wandered around. We went into St Mary's church and had lunch in the Eagle - The RAF bar was amazing. We went back in on Saturday morning for a couple more hours and had an open top bus ride to get a feel for the whole city. The American cemetary looked very moving. We didn't really have time to do the city justice but we will certainly go back
