The earliest mention of this - er - addition that I found is on 4th January. I haven't noticed anybody giving three cheers about it! I don't really like it, so I'm siding with you, maggiebee.

I wonder if there are more of us against this than for, if ed will pull it.
There is no need for any of us to actually vote for best answer if we don't want to as all answers are usually appreciated and it's not a competition.
Just hope there are not people on here who might feel really disappointed if they don't get chosen.

Considering our demographic hovers between grandparent and great-grandparent age I think everyone will have enough perspective on the situation to not let it effect them too much :)

What happens if the asker doesn't bother to choose a best answer? Many askers don't come back to even say 'thank you', so such people aren't going to trouble themselves to pick a best answer. They just ask a question, then walk away from it.

To be honest, the advert doesn't bother me that much, it's the best answer thing that bothers me.
