Can you please explain in the simplest terms how I play a mp4 video file ,I have tried all my programmes but to no avail ,your advice would be much appreciated.

simplest explanation is double click it ... windows should sort the rest

my personal fave is

in the unlikely case that it won't play ... you need to install codecs - again my fave
