I Need A New Mobile But I'm Clueless

I need to be able to ring my best friend and chat for an 'hour'. Her OH has just insisted that they have the landline taken out.

I would ring her on the landline and it would cost me nothing. Now, I can only get hold of her on her mobile. I have a 'pay as you go' Samsung but I need a contract phone, I think. I don't know where to look or what to do.

I don't need all the gubbings that comes with phones. I just need to be able to ring her and chat, without worrying about the cost.

I feel as if I've lost her.

Any suggestions, please?

Well, my friend does not have a computer, so no WiFi, so..... no WhatsApp.

I'm going to Tesco tomorrow and I'll see what they've got. I'll take my current phone and see if they have a sim card for it.
Question Author
I have a lndlinetoo. I prefer to talk on a 'proper' phone.

(I don't even know how to accept an incoming call on my mobile. I told you I was clueless)
Question Author
lndlinetoo.....land line too!
Tilly, look at your contract with BT, landline, look at your list of family and friends, ours has one mobile
It may be cheaper to each get a £5 sim from giffgaff, you can then talk to each other untill the cows come home.

giffgaff to giffgaff calls are free with no catches.
If you are going to talk a lot, then pay as you go might be an expensive way to do it.
Question Author
Perhaps we should go back to writing to each other. :-)
Do you use a quill to write with, Tilly. LOL
Question Author
Sibs, I don't have family and friends. I have unlimited calls but only on landlines.

(I'll ring BT!!!!!! tomorrow and check.)

Thanks anyway.

Talbot, thank you too. I'll mention giffgaff to her and see what she thinks. (She's a bit set in her ways and might just want to stick with her Tesco triple top up thing)

Yes, Melv, I do. It's a feather from the back end of a swan. I love it. Grinding and mixing my own ink is a pain though.
i still don't understand why she cant phone you?

Thanks again, Talbot.
Bednobs, she can ring me but I thought that if someone on a mobile rings my landline, I get charged as well. I might be imagining that, though.
You don't get charged for receiving calls on your landline, Tilly.

Question Author
Thanks, Ummmm. I don't know where that idea came from. Does it cost the caller more, though?
No. It only costs more when abroad but apparently that is changing. That's only mobile to mobile as far as I know.

I don't know your age bracket tilly, I can't believe you are still wondering about this, I thought I was seeing things with your answer there at 8.17, Tilly, my library has a day during the week when some of the secondary school children come in and show us the latest in what's going on with phones/computers/tablets [not medical pills] smartphones and androids, they show us tricks and shortcuts and answer any of our questions like you have, I would suggest you try your area and see if similar happens near you, I'm providing this link as I live in the midlands of Ireland and feel if we have such a service, surely you are more likely to have similar http://www.ageuk.org.uk/work-and-learning/technology-and-internet/computer-training-courses/
Question Author
Thanks for that, Ummmm. I'll tell her to ring me on my landline until I get myself sorted.
If you want to keep your PAYG Tesco triple your credit when you top up and it hasn't got a time limit. I used to top up £10 every couple of months.
