I Need A New Mobile But I'm Clueless

I need to be able to ring my best friend and chat for an 'hour'. Her OH has just insisted that they have the landline taken out.

I would ring her on the landline and it would cost me nothing. Now, I can only get hold of her on her mobile. I have a 'pay as you go' Samsung but I need a contract phone, I think. I don't know where to look or what to do.

I don't need all the gubbings that comes with phones. I just need to be able to ring her and chat, without worrying about the cost.

I feel as if I've lost her.

Any suggestions, please?

She doesn't have a computer, so, Skype's out of the question.
I skype on my mobile, I could be in my nurses room and I get a skype call from Canada, my nephews video call me on my phone through facebook, honestly tilly, there are ways around things, no need to be tied to a computer anymore. Once you keep your mobile topped up to the minimum (here it is 20E a month) you can skype, viber, facebook, even come in here when you want
Not an understanding OH?

Obviously not, Daisy.

I can see that he's annoyed at the landline costs, just to keep in touch with me. I see his point.

All this sim free stuff and contract stuff really confuses me. I don't know what I'm doing!
tilly, this link is a picture of the phone I use, I have windows on it, Istagram, photobucket, skype - everything, it's like walking about with a mini computer in my handbag

Do they both have a Mobile or just him?
Skype app can be downloaded to any mobile. Iphone has 'facetime' in your contacts; you wifi or phone number and facetime is a camera option for viewing or video.
i admit i havent read all answers, but why can't she just ring you on her mobile (especially if she has a minute allowance
Skype requires reliable strong internet signal and can be hit and miss. You have to pay for that on a phone too.

Thank you for all your answers. I will have a look at all those links and suggestions, today.
We have O2 Friends and Family. See

http://service.o2.co.uk/IQ/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE?New,Kb=Companion,question=ref(User):str(Mobile),CASE=ref(O2YourFamily1)

Unlimited calls, texts and picture messages between up to five numbers, for a fixed price of £7.65 per month.

Other networks probably have something similar, so if you were on the same network (O2, Vodafone, 3, etc.) as your friend, you should be able to get a plan that would allow you to talk together very cheaply.

Thank you, Ellipsis. I believe she has a tesco package. So, if I get a phone from Tesco, it should be cheaper to chat?
No. Having a Tesco phone would make no difference.

Did you see my suggestion of paying your landline provider for unlimited mobile calls? It might be cheaper.
BA to Hopkirk, that was going to be my suggestion x
If it is BT I think you can have a favourite mobile number in your list of friends
