Sending File by email

I want to send a 148mb video/music file to a friend by email can someone please tell me the best way to do this. My system is W7 & Firefox14 & I am using hotmail or gmail. I have downloaded MS Skydrive in order to assist with this (as suggested by hotmail) but am not successful so far.

Maybe I'm showing my ignorance but surely the only way to send a file by e-mail is to attach it ? Of course you can try to use something to compress the file first as long as the recipient has the ability to uncompress it on receipt.

If your e-mail service provider baulks at sending a 148MB file, or if the receiver's e-mail won't accept it, then you need to find a site that allows you to upload and download large files. Try Googling for a few such providers ?
Would a "Zip" do the job?
I would think for a file that size you would need to upload it to one of these storage sites. Then send the recipient the address and they download it. I have seen this on here before. Have you searched the site?
