is this a security issue

when i'm logged into my yahoo e-mail checking messages etc i get a pop up saying session expired,and asks for my password.but i just click it off and the mails still working with no problems is this a phishing thing

Probably not.

If you're worried just close the browser and open it again to start a new session, but it's not something i'd be worried about.
