Emails to Mobile phone

I put this query into Technology & so far have had no answers,here's hoping I'll have more luck in this section.



I have a Sony Ericsson Xperia touch mobile 'phone & am trying to get my gmail email account into it & finding it rather difficult, I am with Virgin Mobile & spoke to a person the other day who tried to help me to get on the web without success. Can anyone explain how I can do this without too much hassle ? TIA.

I get to adding email address & password then a message states verifying details & then nothing more, phone goes blank---- end of.

It always then go on to say '' Cannot Download Settings''
I am running out of patience.
