has anyone successfully used ebay/paypal discount code?

I keep getting messages from ebay periodically (not regular, maybe 4 a year). If I buy something and pay by paypal and use the code they send me I will get �3.00, �5.00, whatever off. I've never been able to use them, it always says not valid for some reason or another. I've had help e-mails from paypal saying link the paypal to the ebay account which I thought I had done but I still can't get them to work. Can anyone tell me how to do this, thanks

Ive had a few of these , all i did was to put it in the promotional code box and it was deducted from the amount payable . On some of the codes it specified the category it could used on.

I;ve just bought something using a �2.50 one but it has to be on a paypal only patment option and also it had to be used by a certain date
