My Avast demanded to be updated yesterday, so I did. Now when I plug my external hard drive in (a little Maxell portable) nothing comes up and I can't back things up. I assume these two events are connected as there was no trouble till today.

Is there any way to tell Avast to permit it? Or of restoring the earlier Avast? (Though I assume the latter would be risky.)

(Please don't advise installing MSE instead as I had the same trouble with it in the past; that's why I installed Avast in the first place.)

I use up-to-date Avast on W8.1 and don't have this problem. If you right-click the Avast icon in the task tray you'll find the 'Avast Shield Controls' where you can disable it for a period - see if the drive is recognised when Avast is disabled. I suspect it won't make a difference.

I shant bother with than one then shaney. There's Doctor Foster coming soon, I like that. CAB have reported news re Brexit if the UK goes ahwad. Its basically that Mr S and we will have to reapply for permanent status after March 2019! Because its reciprocal. What a load of nonsense its all xenophobia by the hoi poloi, getting rid of foreigners but they are aiming it at the wrong ones. What a mess!
Hello all. Unbearably hit and sweaty here again. I really cant cope. But on the plus side 3 loads of washing inc kingsize bedding with 6 pillowcases all dried in a few mins. I on the other hand am permanently damp!!
Hija found a German teddy bear in the rubbish, it is a beautiful looking thing so we've adopted it and washed it he's gorgeous and all fluffy. His name is Oscar!
Dull and muggy here.
Neti. Mess isn't the word I would use ..lol .Mr S will have to fill in an 80 page form apparently.
People legally here have already had letters from the Home Office idiots asking them to leave.I'm just waiting for one to land on my doormat then you'll see my name in the papers :)
Hope you're all ok.
Oh dear shaney and Spain loves its red tape and faff, well have pages and pages and god knows what else. I have to laugh if all the legal foreign workers leave the uk and all we pensioners have to move back, can you imagine the state of the country then. No one putting in money and all pensioners taking it out!!!
That will never happen Neti.
Lots of EU people here panicked and filled in the form at enormous expense only to be told they still had to go.I have lots of examples in my Brexit bookmark.
They tried to get rid of a Finnish lady recently who's an academic and has been here for ten years and married to a British man. They sent 100 letters out to various people. They soon climbed down though.Said it was an "unfortunate error ".
Hmmm... They are either totally incompetent, testing the water or trying to frighten people.
It'll take them donkeys years to process everyone anyway.
As yet there's still no agreement set in stone about citizens rights and the negotiators in Brussels won't budge on anything else until that and Irish border are settled.
Mrs May has set out a policy that people will have to apply for residence after we leave but it's not law yet .
I shall file any forms or letters in the green bin and wait for the nazis to turn up in person :)
Night all.

looks like they're ploanning to block everyone except brain surgeons and footballers

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/sep/05/leaked-document-reveals-uk-brexit-plan-to-deter-eu-immigrants

How are Mr S's surgery skills? Maybe he could plant some brains into politicians.
I've just been reading that Jno.
Reading my book in bed and my tablet pinged on my newsfeed.
I think Mr S would probably prefer to plant his foot up their backsides!

Morning. New phone had to go back to shop as couldn't store anything on sd card but apparently they've sorted it. Am on a small Samsung so very difficult ro type. Hope you are all ok. Too damned sweaty here, we are all dripping!
Not so sweaty here .Much cooler, breezy and only a real feel of 18C.
I've been round to my brothers as my great niece ( his grand daughter) was visiting from Norwich with her children. One live wire aged three and the new baby. Before they arrived we had to move stuff out of harms way.Boy, can little 'uns motor these days or have I forgotten what it was like.
Otherwise nothing doing. I'm shattered from colouring in Disney pictures and playing with a pretend mousey :) Hope you're all ok.
We are expecting a storm so I've gone over the top and battened down thing that may move. I think ive been watching too much news!
Good morning flowers!! Overcast and damp but nit raining. A few miles down the road it is torrential and typical Ibiza, the drains cant cope and poo is flooding the roads by the tourists hotels!! Glad I live where I do!
Shaney have you recovered from playing with the ankle biters? I avoid it when I can whereas sister who is now 76 rolls on the floor and chases them and they ride on her back. She loves kids.
raining nits? oh yuck
lol sorry woofy, eurgh nit raining! Making me itch!!

just dull and grey here, safer than Barbuda but not as interesting. Our house purchase has gone through, three weeeks from start to finish, except that I am still trying to fill out accurate insurance application forms on a place I've never seen millions of miles away, relying on snippets of information from family and solicitors. Bleeping bureaucrats.
Thats exciting jno. Remind me, are we talking UK?
Evening all...ooh it gets chilly now. lol at raining nits. It's wet again tonight but seeing the devastation caused by hurricane Irma we can't complain.
I'm not feeling any evidence of this Indian summer yet, is it a wind up?

I won't swap my boob tubes for liberty bodices just yet then.

I know what you mean about little 'uns shaney. When I open the door there are two of them...as soon as they're on the inside I swear they multiply, they're everywhere.

Nothing exciting in the past few days . Had my hair trimmed today. The bulb on the landing has just blown...I'm not teetering on a stool at this time of night, I know how many stairs there are, I can count my way to bed :)

no, buying abroad, neti, aliens like I never know when they may need a Brexit bolthole.

jno jnr started his new job today, down by the river. Back home a mere 13 hours later. I hope the days are not all going to be that long or he'll really be earning his pay.
Good day. How strange I was sure we had all been chatting on here! Very humid today although only 26°, horribly hot and sticky. I have been hacking away at some sort of plant /weed to make a path for the postman. I have actually made Coronation chicken and pot salad for today as Mr N is working and I really didn't think he should have to cook when he owes home. I haven't cooked since July 16th. I like not cooking!
Evening all
It's been a dreary autumnal day .Pouring with rain mostly.
Are you decamping Jno? Hopefully somewhere warm if you are.
Nothing much doing here .Same old.
Hope you're all ok
