Avast Blocking My External Hard Drive

My Avast demanded to be updated yesterday, so I did. Now when I plug my external hard drive in (a little Maxell portable) nothing comes up and I can't back things up. I assume these two events are connected as there was no trouble till today.

Is there any way to tell Avast to permit it? Or of restoring the earlier Avast? (Though I assume the latter would be risky.)

(Please don't advise installing MSE instead as I had the same trouble with it in the past; that's why I installed Avast in the first place.)

I use up-to-date Avast on W8.1 and don't have this problem. If you right-click the Avast icon in the task tray you'll find the 'Avast Shield Controls' where you can disable it for a period - see if the drive is recognised when Avast is disabled. I suspect it won't make a difference.

yesterday was rather nice. Today looking good too; going to sis's for BBQ. Hope everyone is basking.
Question Author
bah, I suppose that post went somewhere...
Happily its a bit chilly for basking here. I am NOT a fan of hot weather. Shaney that sounds like a good idea, its why I went over to tubs although I haven't got the sort of garden that I could gravel. Even with the weed membrane don't forget you will need to Pathclear the gravel as weeds can just root into it.
It's been drizzling here but looks to be brightening up now.
They didn't forecast rain.
Our front drive is gravel Woofy and I've got a massive bottle of glysophate which I regularly spray round to keep the weeds down.
They scream as I approach with my sprayer :)
I've got a child who's on holiday next week so he's doing the edging and gravel shovelling for us.It should look tidier and I can get some ready planted stuff in pots to dot about.
Well,that's the idea anyway ....
Hope you're all ok and that you're not too itchy Neti.

Hello,,got car back today, very well repaired they even did the back light which was smashed the day after the crash, we said nuffin'. Mr N is being a prat today so I've told him to f off, and left him in town with the brekkie. I've finally done my roots, which I liked as they gave definition to my style but was getting too defined! It's a box I brought over from UK and it's done the job, it's a bit bright but I'll sort it. So hot and humid, it's the humidity which is the killer.
But of course, hija has the car!
Oh dear this chemical haze is affecting most of Eastbourne, my sister was having lunch at Beachy Head and felt her eyes becoming sore and itchy and had no idea why, but she's home now and has rinsed her eyes and shut all doors and windows as instructed. Nephew also was affected as he was up on the downs at the time. He took a photo of this yellow haze covering the town. Looks awful.
We had a nice tapas lunch with hija and Sister in law and her partner. It was hazy and no full sun so quite pleasant.
Hope you are all ok,. Where's the Robi again?
Where is everybody? Have you all be wiped out by the yellow toxic haze?
No I haven't been wiped out Neti, just making the most of the nice weather while it lasts. We've been on the seafront yesterday and I've been sitting out in the garden today, reading and watching the washing whirling and the birds flitting about.
I saw that on the news about Birling Gap. Very strange as to where it's come from.Hope it soon clears away.Must have been scary stuck on the beach when that suddenly appeared.
Nothing doing otherwise .
Yes ,give us a wave Robinia ,hope you're alright.

loverly day, so we took the boat [not ours] from Westminster up to Richmond, strolled round town, had a cheese burger and caught the train home. Clouded over a bit now but I was sitting on the top deck in the sun for 3 hours and am now quaffing one cold drink after another to make up for it.

Our haze wasn't any yellower or more toxic than usual.

There are skyscrapers all along the riverbank as far as Chelsea these days. I suppose in time they will go even further, all the way up to the source of the river which if I recall is a tap dripping in a field.
Hello all. Its been hot here but I have done much pottering and been quite busy. The actual source of the Thames is on private land as I recall...the closest you can get is somewhere around Lechlade and there is (or used to be) a rather fine statue at Lechlade lock.
Question Author
yes, the dripping tap was in a Monty Python expedition that doesn't seem to be on YouTube, but I'm pretty sure I remember it. They turn off the tap, then cut in some pictures of the Thames dried up from The Day the Earth Caught Fire.
yes that sounds very Pythonesque....I believe though that the story of the bloke who pulled the plug out and drained a stretch of canal is true.

this is the only petition I've signed all year, but it seems a particularly bonkers proposal - run a road through part of RHS Wisley. Okay, my garden would probably be none the worse for being covered in tarmac, but Wisley?

Good morning all. A few spots of rain but stinking hot which I hate. I am still covered in spots with new ones daily. They are not bites they look like hives. I finally got my useless new doctor to give me a paper for the opthalmologist in the hospital but am on waiting list! Shes "not sure" so I just insisted and said we'll start again with the eye doctor!! I had an allergy test but it was for Linfocitos, plaquetas and load more. Very strange
Question Author
plaquetas, is that like some form of tapas?
hello all
Dreary day after the last few nice days.Raining on and off and a sudden drop of ten degrees in temps.
I've signed that Jno .I had a lovely day many years ago at Wisley with my old friend Jeannie. They'll concrete over everything if they're not stopped !
hello all, its been a useless sort of day here. We have been between two huge and nasty areas of weather close enough to worry Shughy since 6am but far enough away for not a drop of rain to fall on my dry garden. And its been cold.
Good day to you all. Rain showers and sweltering. I went out for coffee with friends and dear MrN cleared and cleaned out under the kitchen table and behind the cooker. Now I have more knives!! So I made an effort and cleared the workspace!!
I didnt sign your petition jno as I don't think they'll take much notice of a peasant living at the foot of a mountain.
The only one I have signed is here to stop pet shops selling kittens and puppies and having them in the hot windows. Its very cruel.
