My Avast demanded to be updated yesterday, so I did. Now when I plug my external hard drive in (a little Maxell portable) nothing comes up and I can't back things up. I assume these two events are connected as there was no trouble till today.

Is there any way to tell Avast to permit it? Or of restoring the earlier Avast? (Though I assume the latter would be risky.)

(Please don't advise installing MSE instead as I had the same trouble with it in the past; that's why I installed Avast in the first place.)

I use up-to-date Avast on W8.1 and don't have this problem. If you right-click the Avast icon in the task tray you'll find the 'Avast Shield Controls' where you can disable it for a period - see if the drive is recognised when Avast is disabled. I suspect it won't make a difference.

Hello all
I'm glad Jno jnr is alright.Frightening for you. Bloody swines.
You mustn't let the b's grind you down though. I remember how it was when we lived in London and the IRA were on the rampage. You just have to carry on.
I've given in and put the heating on this evening. After a bright morning the heavens opened and it chucked it down all afternoon and turned really chilly.

I couldn't smell them Neti .I have the extractor on anyway to waft away all the niffs.I've ordered a new cooker which will come next Saturday. Nothing fancy ,just hob and double oven which will do us.
It'll be our third cooker in nearly 45 years so mustn't grumble.

Watched Cold Feet.I love it.Pete and Jen still have the same orange sheets on the bed and Pete's still chopping carrots every night for dinner ...lol.
Keep warm ...night all.
Raining here most of last night and today, so much cooler. I am still getting new spots, we went shopping but it was too crowded and nowhere in the car park so we gave up until Monday. We have loads of food anyway and could survive a hurricane.
hello all. I am on my 4th cooker. We only replaced the last one when we had the kitchen redone and we changed out a bog standard for a range style. Really really fed up with the weather. The ground is finally sodden and the grass is growing like nobody's business. I have found a service that collects stuff for charity so I am having yet another huge sort out. They take furniture as well so a couple of big items are going which is lovely. I am also ebaying a TON of Kipling handbags. I think stuff creeps into the house while I am asleep....no idea where it all appears from.

well well well, Ryanair cancelling oodles of flights because they've burgered up their holiday rotas, and guess who we're flying with this week. No news of which ones they're cancelling on our day.
hello all
Chilly miserable day here, sloshing with rain on and off.The garden work is on hold and it looks like more of the same.
I'm glad we've got the slow cooker or I would have been stuffed for today's planned hot meal.
I saw that on the news Jno. How can they do that ? Surely they have cover for staff who are on holiday. Or is O'Leary just trying to score points to show what chaos could ensue after Brexit ...lol.
Seriously though, I hope you're not affected by it.
Hope you're all ok ..
Kipling bags Woofy ..hmmm.I'll have to browse EBay.
I've often thought about selling stuff on there but don't have a clue how to go about it and end up taking all my stuff to a charity shop.I recently took a load of books ,aprons, which were all brand new and belonged to MiL and useless bamboo knitting needles which bend if knitting anything heavy. The aprons were really nice .I could have sold them on EBay ...haha.

it's been open house weekend so I've been going round buildings - an old house in Hampstead, a new skyscraper by the river, the supreme court etc. Very interesting but I need a rest, a lot of walking involved (especially for anyone who happens to lose the way in Hampstead).
Hello. Spent 8 hrs at music festival yesterday, dancing and drinking mojitos, was a lovely time. Did shopping this am and then decided to thoroughly clean the bedroom, so vacuums, steamers and sprays all in force, I nearly choked. Feel much better now. Still itchy which is one of the reasons I did a deep clean!! Nothing found though, apart from several pairs of spectacles under the bed! Feeling tired now!!
Jno Rynir re even telling people which flights are cancelled. People here are turning up at the airport and nothing offered until next week. I never book with them.
Jno that should read Ryanair are not even telling customers that their flights are cancelled!!
Jno no idea when you are flying but there is a cancellation list from Ryanair on internet.

thanks, neti, I knew our outbound flight was okay and it seems the return one will be too.
I bet that's a relief for you Jno.
What a total debacle though. There were two young girls on the local news tonight who are stranded in Budapest.I think that's where it was. They can't get a flight back for three days ,have little money left and they have to vacate their hotel.People must be frantic. It's not just the financial cost to some it's the emotional cost too, especially if they are going away for family stuff like weddings or funerals etc.
Nothing doing here except raining.I don't think it's stopped since Friday or if it did I must have missed it.
Hope you're all ok .
Happy Birthday Jude if you are looking in ! Have a great day!
Good morning everyone. Nice sunny day here.
There are thousands of people stranded all over Europe thanks to Ryanair. He has apparently lost 140 pilots to Norwegian which is more the problem than holiday mix ups. I avoid Ryanair like the plague, although when we won a free weekend in Barcelona we flew Ryanair and it was a perfectly ok flight.
Am enjoying that Liar although she is looking too good in it which probably meaning she is innocent!
Hello all
Bright morning after it sloshed it down most of the night but it's clouding up again now and looks like more rain although Accu say it should be dry.The garden is like a swamp.
Liar is good Neti .I don't know what to think.
I can't make head nor tails of that Rellik.Don't think I'll bother with the rest of it.
Happy Birthday Jude .Hope you have a nice day.

Oops I meant she is Not looking too good in it. I gave up on Rellik (killer backwards) couldn't get into it.
Got laptop back and now cannot connect to internet in any way shape or form. They did tgis last time and left admin on it so I couldn't access it. They are useless but not much choice here. Looked on internet and it said open 9.30- 8.30 so trotted down at 3.30 and the beggars are closed. Ill have to go later but its wearing me out walking all this way 3x!!
