My Avast demanded to be updated yesterday, so I did. Now when I plug my external hard drive in (a little Maxell portable) nothing comes up and I can't back things up. I assume these two events are connected as there was no trouble till today.

Is there any way to tell Avast to permit it? Or of restoring the earlier Avast? (Though I assume the latter would be risky.)

(Please don't advise installing MSE instead as I had the same trouble with it in the past; that's why I installed Avast in the first place.)

I use up-to-date Avast on W8.1 and don't have this problem. If you right-click the Avast icon in the task tray you'll find the 'Avast Shield Controls' where you can disable it for a period - see if the drive is recognised when Avast is disabled. I suspect it won't make a difference.

It was lovely when we got to Paris, blue ciel and soleil shining. Now we have moved to Monet country down the Seine and there is thundering and lightninging all round. This had better clear up pronto.
Ooh noo Jno .You don't seem to be able to get away from la pluie.
You should have gone to Spain ,it only rains mainly on the plain there:)
Never fear, the exit polls are looking good ! I hope the predictions are true, five years of Mrs May having carte blanche to do exactly as she likes doesn't bear thinking about .
Oh no, not the mung bean eater, sharing a parliament with Ms May? Your country will be is such a mess.
The tories will still win Neti but I doubt she'll have such a large majority this time. She didn't have to call an election. It was pure hubris on her part and I think it's going to backfire on her.

Good morning. Well what can I say? A hung parliament, haven't you lot learned anything from Spain having one for the last 2 elections. So is Brexit on or off? I was getting quite excited about being a foreigner in Spain again and getting rid of the awful Brits hwre. She didn't have to call one, should have learned from Cameron having a Brexit vote.
Good evening, I think I've worked out how to post on here, copy and paste from notepad, sign in and submit quickly.

The election result is no surprise to me. The words 'foot herself shot in the' come to mind.

Haha neti, I don't live like a slob, the loo paper was on the roll, bag and socks on a chair. It's a cylinder vac and I was being thorough with the small attachment in corners. It's very powerful and everytime I swung it round it caught hold of something.

Hasn't been my day, I went for an armful of blood tests...waited 20 mins for a taxi to take me on to my gp surgery, I had to drop off a wee sample. That was some feat at 7 this morning, let's just say spray nozzle and leave it there. :) Gp receptionist told me the courier had gone (I thought they tested it there) and I'd have to do a fresh one next week. Called in Boots to collect an order and there's one item missing. It's a full moon.

Good news is the weather has improved and le soleil brille.
hello all, I left this in news but thought we should have our own.

Evening all. Thank you for explaining about your house Robi I really couldn't see you being so messy!
We went out for a lunch and I didn't like any of the choices and I can usually eat anything. I managed though and the wine was nice and refreshing. Had hair cut and I like it this time.
I don't understand politics.
It's true about these Hoovers Robi, the cat has just escaped many a time but bed valences and long curtains go whooshing up.
Evening all
Hahaaa. I love that Woofy .Very funny.
Talking of cleaning we bought a vac at Lidls last week for fifty quid. One of those rechargeable doodahs with a hand held attachment as well .It's quite good and light for me to use. It's a cheap version of the more well known brands but it's great for a whiz round and saves me having to lug that heavy old Miele thing out all the time .
It got out lovely here this afternoon after some quite heavy showers this morning and it looks set fair for a while again ,fingers crossed. We've had enough rain for the time being .
KBO .Night ,night.

Ah, that was an enjoyable poll result, well done everyone. Maybe it will mean a bit less bullying, though probably not. Sun was very brillant today, went to Monet's garden and Chartres cathedral, both fab. Some Loire valley chateaux tomorreaux.
Morning all. Shaney I have 2 of those Hoovers from lidl, they are excellent. I bought a second one just in case. Don't hold much dirt but I love them
My nearest Lidl is quite a hike and no guarantee of being able to park when you get there so I don’t bother. They have put in to build one locally but they want to buy about half of the local village parking to build it....local council would love to sell but understandably many of the locals aren’t keen.
Afternoon all
It's a lovely one .Washing whirling .
Yes ,I 'm really pleased with it Neti and the hand held bit is ideal for the stairs and going over the upholstery etc. I love Lidl .
We're lucky Woofy ,ours is only a short bus ride away.Mr S often goes first thing in the morning for bits and pieces especially those rotten herrings ..lol. Picky took me to get the vac as it was a bit big for lugging on the bus.We were lucky as by the time we got there ,there were only two left.
Hope you're all ok .
Hello ladies!
Lovely sunny day. Our lidl is miles away. If I don't have the car I have to get a bus to Ibiza town and then a taxi. Last time I bought a floor steamer and a hand steamer as did my friend so we had to phone hija to collect us, we couldn't carry them anywhere! The steamer is amazing, and perfect car mishaps and the smell goes immediately. Poor Mousey is looking a tad ragged now but still seems happy enough, we've been talking about when she has to go to the rainbow bridge but don't think there's a need just yet, but I fear it won't be too long.
We have bought a rainfall shower with another hand shower attached, and a new chrome rack thingy to hold bottles in the bathroom, as the cheap one I bought has rusted away! We did the usual food shopping although it's mainly for the cat and household cleaning stuff these days!
We also bought a pergola to go over the pool, my!
Isn't life exciting!
Anyone watching Broken? I am enjoying it.
Shaney I will get The Americans off next week, have been very lazy about it. Strange as there is no real ending and it is the end of the series. One more next year!
