A dozy question perhaps.!!

Sometimes it takes me three or four attempts to put my computer into a sleeping mode. Each time I try, it closes down and then restarts.

Before this posting I have gone through twice, what I believe to be the correct procedure (Close down.. then click 'sleep'.) so the next attempt will be about the average of 3.

I operate on Windows Vista, my desktop is an HP Pavillion slimline and my default browser is Firefox 6.

Please comment as you wish.( Humorously or otherwise.)

Seriously ... I'm thinking about it : )
I hold down the Windows key and L to lock my computer - is that the same thing?
Nope, I don't underatnd albags either Ron.
If troubled, make sure all apps are closed then just hold in the off switch for 10 secs which will show it who's boss.
Have a look at this .. and apply accordingly! ...

Mosaic .. sounds like a forced shutdown. Not good if done regularly.
No Box ...

Check your Power Options peoples : )

Info is on that link .
Albags, you'll have some smart reason why you didn't just tell the guy. Beats me.
The article needs to be read .. rather than sitting on my Yabbie writing and copying text, when I can post a link. Comprendez?
I have several other things I am doing .. on and off the PC .. apart from replying to others requests.
Thanks you for your consideration.
To be fair to Al, Mosaic, Ron did ask for humorous replies or otherwise. Al has given some excellent and sound pc advice over a long period and has spent considerable time helping some ABers (like ~Bez~ as I recall) :)
Hi ttfn ... hope you are well .. long time no speak : )

Yes .. I replied as suggested.
All of which clearly allows him to be rude.
Well if the majority say yes, then...
Not bad at all thanks Al - nice to see you are keeping busy ;) x
Rude? lol

Where was that bit then?
Yes ttfn .. busy work, and busy home.
Bez hasn't emailed me in a while .. so she must be ok at the moment!

Ohhhhhh Al....you're ever so rude...pmsl xx

Hi AlBags...I;m glad you had a good laugh. Hope your trousers have not been soiled.:-)

Seriously, I have checked-out your link and, no doubt because I am slow on the up-take. I can't see that it gives me a satisfactory answer.

Incidentally Mosaic, I know that AlBags is correct in what he has said about 'forced shutdowns' which should only be used to close down a computer, if all else fails.

boxtops..Sorry, I can't answer the question which you have now posed.

Ron.
Hi Ron ... no .. but I think Ummmm's have ; )

Just check the settings there are applied to yours Ron. Photos make it easy.
If you changed anything, you may not get a change until after a reboot.

One thing at a time is usually the best way in these sort of circumstances.

Shall we all now forget that I asked a question.

Ron.
You said you are selecting sleep, shouldn't you be selecting shut down? Or have I missed the point?
Just reread the OP and yes I have.
