Following on from the Prince George at school thread.....

Mine was in Bolton-le-Sands, a primary on the A6 right next to a humpback bridge on the canal, one Mrs Swain running the establishment and quite ferocious, her husband built like a six ft six willow tree.

I had one of those swivel crayon and pencil boxes.

I can remember sitting under the table and refusing to come out - all sorts of bribery tried to no avail....the parental units coming at lunch time to rescue me.

The second day, I can not remember.

I got my revenge later when the Mrs Swain tried to make me eat a banana and got more than she expected when a barf projectile caught her square on.

Over to you....

have absolutely no idea of the first day. I remember playing with sand and water which was quite interesting.
Better memories from when I was about 5 or 6 and could embarrass my prefect brother.
Yes ,my mother was a school teacher and had already taught me to read and write plus basic addition and subtraction. Once the school teachers realised I was already ahead of the rest of the class they basically ignored me. My Mum was so good as a teacher of reading that the school virtually refused to let her retire . She was still taking small groups of 'remedial readers' at the age of 70!
No memory whatsoever. I do remember my first day teaching at a secondary school though September after my PGCE year. I was petrified, the kids were like aliens although I grew to love most of them eventually!
Not my very first day specifically, but I have memories of hating milk (though I love it now!), playing with Lego, the teacher writing the date on the top of the blackboard every morning, being taken for swimming lessons in a coach driven by a woman who looked like a man, the local vicar visiting occasionally, etc.
I can't remember my first day at school ( i'm impressed with those that can - although your current age might have a bearing on how much you remember - for example if your'e in your thirties you may remember more, than if your'e in your seventies )

I went to a private school until i was about 7 and do remember it being very strict - you were there to learn .
For example i knew my times table - 1-12 by the time i was about 7 years old and could read and write at a standard above other pupils of my age .

I'm 62, and I remember my first day at Priory Road Infants when I was four. I can see my mother walking up the path smiling, as I was sat on Miss Jones' knee while I cried, being aware that all the other children were looking at me, and none of them were crying.
Yes.....clearly.My sister (mother) took me to school and the teacher sat me next to a boy called Sammy Bloye.
The teacher said" Say hello to Sammy" and i replied "No".
We had a band and i wanted to play the drums, but i was given the triangles.....hopeless.
I'm not sure if it on the very first day but some of the other children asked if I was an American. They'd confused my London accent with those they'd heard in the cinema.
My Mum took me to school - no going in with you in those days, no pre school, nursery etc. Decided I didn't and I left and started to walk home. They caught up with me just up the road and dragged me back - I hated school from that day on.
You are joking!!! But I can recall various other primary school days.
I can remember getting the ruler across my hand in late primary years.
sqad - lol

//The teacher said" Say hello to Sammy" and i replied "No". //

Were you like the 'Doc Martin' character , in your practising days - no messing and to the point ? :-)
Bazile....if i was born 30 years later, I would have been diagnosed as ADHD and shipped off to a child psychiatrist, luckily I escaped their clutches....LOL
I don't remember my first day, but I remember an early day when I was 5. I was picking my nose (as kids do) and the teacher saw me, she shouted out at top of her voice 'My name stop picking your nose' !!! I must have been embarrassed as I've never forgotten it !
I recall it quite well, I marched straight in and a nice lady was very pleased when I went directly to my own coat peg as I could read my name.

On being collected Mum told me she was a bit upset I hadn't turned and waved like the others, guilt set in early but I adored school and they had to make me leave.
There were too many children in the new intake so some of us were moved to an older class (who had started 6 months previously - there were 2 intakes a year then). I remember sitting in my new classroom crying because I had left my brand new school bag in the other class.
I remember the class sitting on the floor while the teacher read a story. Someone had undone the clip and zip on the back of my skirt so it fell down to my ankles when I stood up. I was mortified.
Yes I can remember part of it. For some reason I started on my 5th the birthday. I clearly remember my parents telling me I was a big girl, now that I was 5. My mother took me into the classroom and I remember feeling shy seeing all these other children. The teacher, Mrs. Workman, took me to see another female teacher in next classroom and said, "this is ( my fathers name) daughter and they were smiling and staring at me. I can remember the smell of that dark red carbolic soap from the cloakroom, also the coloured wax crayons!

Great ones, love Jo's.....

I enjoyed my prep school enormously, we had woods that we could build huts in and have fires to cook baked beans etc. Then there were the willow-herb wars, take a stalk, strip it and throw like a spear. The biggest hut was Leakey's named after one of the Kenyan anthropologists.
