Any tips for the Grand National??

Got about £20 from various work peeps, and undecided to go for a heavily backed favourite....or a long shot

And is it best to go "each way" or just go for the winner??

My tip is DON'T bet on it - it might help save horses' lives. It's a very cruel race and there's usually horses that die through running in it...let's hope that's not the case this year. I abhor this race along with a lot but this is the worst of all IMO.
I've not heard anything about the runners this year yet but I just thought i'd warn you about the backlash you may receive about this. We got some bollocking for talking about it last year :|

Thanks erin...Yes no disrespect is meant.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion erin. I wouldn't have any "problems" with this race if it was done by humans and not animals.
I know someone who died doing a marathon. Should all marathons be banned because of this? As for the National it is an institution. Do I know anything about horse racing NO. Do I want it banned, again NO. When things get banned they go under ground. So no rules with regard to the whip ETC.
I didn't say otherwise Daisya... I was just warning him about it.
Mic, marathon runners have a choice - horses don't - the are trained to run/jump for racing they can't say if they want to do it or not.
Meanwhile, back at the OP.
Statistically, the favourite rarely wins.
Each way bet every time but anything under 8 to 1 is not worth an each way bet.
I dunno WyeDyed. I bet each way everytime and the winners I have chosen have had odds of 10, 14 and 33-1.
always right 33/1
^^^
That's what I meant. Odds longer than 8 to 1.
You really can stick a pin in the form and have as good a chance as any.
Oh yeah! UNDER 8-1... Sorry lol! x
Just buy £20 of lottery tickets.

My wife only ever bets once a year, on the National.

She picks horses based on family names and colours and bets on about 6 horses (only small bets).

It costs her about £15 or £20 to make all the bets and I have NEVER known her actually be in profit after the race.
3 horses were destroyed after last years race... They did not apply to be there... Find a nice flat race to bet on....
Whatever you do don't back Calgary Bay - I picked it out in the office sweep and i never get a 'placed' horse.
the horses must hate it......thats why they carry on running/jumping when the rider has been thrown.....yes makes sense.....lol
chicago grey...and last years winner, which i tipped on here. ballabriggs are my tips...
Yep Ballabrigs for me, tho shakalakaboomboom ( not I did'ne spell check it!), could be a good each way bet.

Horses do have a choice, I've backed a horses so many thimes that have got to the start and "refused to run", but then I keep horses so understand them!!
cheers Toes, I was keeping shakalakaboom da boom thingy under my hat :-)
My tip - don't encourage it, it's cruel !!!
