Would they come to the house weekly or fortnightly? And how many hours on each visit is usual?

Hi sandy x whatever you need really. Maybe start with a couple of hours each week and see how it goes?
They would do whatever you wanted Sandy. I would think weekly for two/three hours should be enough.
Snap Pixie :-)
:-)
When I lived in Belfast I had a girl visit for 3 hours on a Friday only
How long is a piece of string Sandy ?

For Mikey4444 Towers, 4 hours, once a week used to be enough.
hello sandy, haven't seen you for a while, hope you're keeping well
Depends how big your house is, I have a 2 bed bungalow.
I have one that comes every 2 weeks for 2 hours, or 3 if needed.
I pay her £10.00 per hour, plus little gifts now and again.
I live in a tiny studio flat. My cleaner comes in once a week for two hours. For the first hour she cleans and changes my bed and for the second hour she does my shopping. I am now totally reliant on her.
I don't have a cleaner but I'm strongly thinking of getting one, my next door neighbour is a cleaner (I wouldn't get her-she has a mouth the width of Galway bay) and swears she is very confidential, loves to tell me who has an awful messy house and the like, so I am going to get someone maybe once a week for an hour, I know from my neighbour the client calls the shots and it can be as regular or irregular as you like, just be sure they have some references from them, I'm going to ask around or ask my nurse for a recommendation. You'll be the boss Sandy, so you say when you want them
Hello Sandy, you've been missed. I would go with Pixie's answer.
Nice to see you Sandy, a cleaner could do a lot of work in
3 hours a week .
I have a friend who employs a cleaner once a week, I was on the telephone to him the other day and he apologised by saying that he would have to end the call, because his cleaner was due very shortly, so he had got to clean up before she arrived.

Strange.
You've come to the right place, there's plenty of scrubbers on AB ;-)
looks like melv is living dangerously
three hours a week
only little me
( and dogge)
and pay a tenner an hour

remember a good contract is where BOTH sides think they are getting a good deal

as a contrast see the thread about home care and pay rises and self employment.
// because his cleaner was due very shortly, so he had got to clean up before she arrived. //

yeah s/o was asking if there was a word for "pre-cleaning a house" before the cleaner arrives

one found the axe I keep under the bed ( rough where I live)
and I feel obliged to clear up the used snot-rags I tend to leave around ( for re-use) after um I have dried them

Hi everybody, it's good to be back. I just returned last week from walking the Portuguese Camino, Lisbon to Santiago. Between the walks I had a bit of work done on the house. If I want to keep it as it is now I'll need the cleaner.
An example of how I let clutter build up; before the work started I needed two big skips to clear the accumulated rubbish.
christ that is pretty rubbishy considering how much we manks get into ( someone else's) skip
Question Author
People were taking stuff out of the skips and they were welcome to it. I was trying to get the house emptied for the builders so stuff went into skips that otherwise would have gone to charity shops if I'd had more time.
