Do muslims share the christian belief that the earth is only 6000 yrs old and that dinosauars walked alongside man?
Do they accept evolution?
Or is there a difference of opinion in the islamic faith?
Thanks.

thx for the very interesting posts

what do you think of the sana'a documents ?
Will have to get back to you on this one. I have to admit that I haven't come across 'Sana'a manuscript' before. This is new to me.

Thanks.
Good evening, Birdie. I think the document mentioned is a challenge to the "never been changed" theory about the Koran (i.e. the Uthman codex). Can't see the relevance relevant to this thread.
But good to see Peter this side of the worm-hole conforming to local customs..
.. such as speaking English and advancing intelligible propositions.
Have you read or watched Durie on Fiqh, yet?
Birdie, Dr Zakir Naik is a dangerous idiot who is hero worshipped by millions.
Interesting videos. Only confirms my belief that Islam belongs to the dark ages.
Wildwood....it isn't just Muslims that believe in this nonsense. Despite what some people have said on this thread, the ludicrous concept of the earth being only a few thousands of years old is taken as truth by millions of Christians as well.

Look at this load of complete drivel :::::

http://creationmuseum.org/about/

How backward could anyone be that actually thinks this is the truth ?
Mikey, as has been said few Christians believe that and Muslims don't believe it either. Time to change the record.
mikey thanks for the link, that looks like a great day out.
Naomi...millions of fundamentalist American Christians believe in the literal truth of the Bible. They don't distinguish between the nutty bits and the really nutty bits...if they did, the whole pack of cards would come falling down about their ears. Perhaps its time you changed your record.
Mikey, what would you like me to change it to? I’m telling you the truth. Yes, there are fundamentalists who believe in a young earth – I mentioned The Creation Museum and its founder on the first page here - but they are by no means representative of the whole of Christianity. The Catholic church, by far the biggest Christian sect in the world, doesn’t promote a young earth philosophy. The real stumbling block for all of them, Muslims too, is not the age of the earth, but the impossibility of denying that man was created in the image of God. Whatever they believe, evolution is not a consideration with that one.
Considering the Koran is the word of God, there are quite a few unscientific assertions in it, one being that the moon, like the sun, gives out light.
Funny he didn't know that.
Naomi.... I am not suggesting that the whole of Christianity believe this drivel but a significant number of "born again" Christians do, many of them American.

The so-called "young earth" theory was invented by an American, Henry M Morris because the traditional creationist beliefs were becoming increasingly untenable and risible.

Mikey, The young earth theory emanated from James Ussher, Archbishop of Armagh, in the 17th century. The rest have jumped on that bandwagon.

Khandro "Considering the Koran is the word of God, there are quite a few unscientific assertions in it, one being that the moon, like the sun, gives out light.
Funny he didn't know that."

This also applies to the Bible. Only the Bible says, God gave us light on the first day, and the sun and the moon and stars came on the fourth day! How does that work?
Ratter, the difference between the Bible and the Koran is that the first is alleged to have been written by human beings inspired by God and therefore open to interpretation and criticism; the second the unequivocal word God and therefore not open to interpretation or criticism. Today's Islamic scholars tie themselves in knots trying to reconcile the wonky science of the Koran with indisputable fact.
Ratter; naomi beat me to it! There's lots more scientific anomalies on here;

http://www.answering-islam.org/Quran/Science/
All facts are disputable...even the 'fact' that the koran was written by mohammed who wrote it down verbatim from what the angel gabriel told him that god had said, on leaves and stones etc. Later on Islamic scholars having use of all the written materiel (none having been lost) arranged it in the correct order so that it made some kind of sense. So you see there is no possibility of any mistakes or any need for corrections.
// Today's Islamic scholars tie themselves in knots trying to reconcile the wonky science of the Koran with indisputable fact.//

but they didnt Nigh they didnt... during 800-1200 (AD)

so it seems reasonable to ask why the arab scientists ( erm 800-1200 AD that is ) moved from an empirical view of the world to a mystical one

By the way I thinkthere is no doubt that God dictated the Quran to Mohd ( PBUH) so that it was also written by the human - that is how we know God speaks Arabic. Also there must have been alternate texts or else Uthman wouldnt have had a hoolie over the correct version and ordereed all other alternative to be burnt.
HI Khandro, So if birds are held up by god they must be favoured by him and deserving of worship?...wasps too I imagine.
