Foolish are those professed Christians who would serve God and Christ and who would at the same time be friends of the world!

To try to mix the two is like trying to mix oil with water.

It just cannot be done! Why not? Because, as the apostle John tells us, “the whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one.”—1 John 5:19.

Don't do it. You may have a purse of gold for a while but your heart will be weighed down forever with guilt and regret.
Goodlife won't comment on Exodus 21, because it is inconvenient.

It comes shortly after the ten commanments, but perhaps we can ignore commandments that we don't agree with.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

That why the Bible is so little understood, God’s Word commands: Speak truth each of you with his neighbor.” (Eph. 4:25) This command, however, does not mean that we should tell everyone who asks us all he wants to know. We must tell the truth to one who is entitled to know, but you can go and study law and see why.
//We must tell the truth to one who is entitled to know//

Who would that be - and can we assume you're lying to the rest?
You are still not answering Exodus 21 Goodlife.

This tells us that sexual slavery, bigamy and adultery are OK doesn't it?

Can you not read too, that all for today bye bye.
goodlife, your statement at 12:59 shows exactly what is wrong with you and your religion. Eph 4:25 says stop lying and every man speak the truth to his neighbour. You have chosen to print not only part of this but then change it to only tell the truth to one who is entitled to know. Your usual answer is we don't understand, implying you do, so please explain to us and your God ,seeing as you've changed his words,( as you have already stated, God is the bible's author) so we can understand.

Oh ruddy hell...goodlife is off again !
Goodlife - "... Foolish are those professed Christians who would serve God and Christ and who would at the same time be friends of the world... It just cannot be done! Why not? Because, as the apostle John tells us, “the whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one.”"

Wow! What an amazing statement.

In essence what you're saying is - do not love your neighbour as they are most likely wicked. How very "Christian" of you!

It's an evil, vile and wicked pronouncement. Shame on you Goodlife.

Birdie..
As usual you got hold of the wrong end of the stick. This confirms my view all along, that unless you have understanding of the scriptures you won't get the insight. The whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one, so no matter who you are, you are influenced by the God of this System things. This has nothing to do with the God of the Bible. Jesus warned us that this would happen, as did the apostles. True Christians are aware of this and they are constantly on guard in line with Jesus' words "To keep on the watch". This is also a reason why JWs are constantly calling on people helping them to come to an accurate knowledge of God and in order to help save lives in the coming tribulation. Matthew 24 v 14.
But as most of you are atheists and this is a religious site, I don't know why you bother answering. Why not just go on your own atheist site and argue among yourselves.
Goodlife, //Why not just go on your own atheist site and argue among yourselves. //

Sorry to disappoint, but there is no argument among ourselves. Seems you're stuck with us. ;o)
Need to have the last word again Naomi?? At least you're consistent.
I didn't realise this thread was finished, Maggie. Is it? How can you tell?
Quotes passage from Bible to tell us why the Bible is not understood. Errrr.
The Hebrew word used for slave in Exodus 21 ebed is translated, mainly, as servant by Strong's Concordance… "Most importantly, slavery was not intended as a permanent condition, but a voluntary, temporary refuge for people suffering what would otherwise be desperate poverty. “When you buy a male Hebrew slave, he shall serve six years, but in the seventh he shall go out a free person, without debt” (Exod. 21:2). Cruelty on the part of the owner resulted in immediate freedom for the slave (Exod. 21:26-27). This made Hebrew slavery more like a kind of long-term labor contract among individuals, and less like the kind of permanent racial/class/ethnic exploitation that has characterized slavery in modern times.

Also in contrast to slavery in the United States, which generally forbade marriage among slaves, the regulations in Exodus aim to preserve families intact. “If he comes in single, he shall go out single; if he comes in married, then his wife shall go out with him” (Exod. 21:3). The general equality between slave owners and slaves is highlighted by the regulations about female slaves in Exodus 21:7-11. The only purpose contemplated for buying a female slave was so that she could become the wife of either the buyer or the buyer’s son (Exod. 21:8-9). She became the social equal (as wife) of the slaveholder, and the purchase functioned much like the giving of a dowry. Indeed, she is even called a “wife” by the regulation (Exod. 21:10). Moreover, if the buyer failed to treat the female slave with all the rights due an ordinary wife, he was required to set her free. “She shall go out without debt, without payment of money” (Exod. 21:11)… (Source: http://www.biblestudytools.com/dictionary/slave/ )
A dog thinks "This man feeds me, loves me, grooms me, houses me, pets me, and takes good care of me. He must be God."

A cat thinks, "This woman feeds me, loves me, grooms me, houses me, pets me, and takes good care of me. I must be God"
It's becoming more than a little threadbare, Canary… maybe a rest would help...
