Why would god create everyone and then tell one group to kill another? That makes no sense if it's true

naomi; You may not understand Arabic, but surely you should be able to understand English. "Fight in the cause of God those who fight you, but do not transgress limits .......;
How could that not be clearer call to defend yourself against aggressors; those who wage war against you and your religion?
You assert, //That sounds good until you understand that “those who fight against you” applies to anyone who is not Muslim.// (Well, they would be wouldn't they?).
Nowhere are Muslims instructed to go out and simply slaughter non-Muslims because they are as such.
\\ Nowhere are Muslims instructed to go out and simply slaughter non-Muslims because they are as such. //
koran 2:191 And kill them wherever you find them.
How is this to be interpreted then ?
^^ Are you actually reading the posts? (or the Koran, for that matter)
To whom do you think "them" refers ?
I said specifically that I had two examples for you, Khandro - suras 8 and 9. Hadn't you noticed that remark?
Sura 8 - titled Booty in my translation (presumably "revealed" at Medina in anticipation of the return to Mecca):

"...Booty belongs to God and His Messenger...Remember when God promised that one of the two caravans shall be yours whereas you had wanted the unarmed one..." (Not relevant that bit - just chucked it in)
"Remember when God revealed to the angels '...I shall strike terror into the hearts of the unbelievers. So strike above the necks, and strike their every finger!' For they defied God and His Messenger, God is severe in retribution. Here it is: so taste it! For the unbelievers the torment of the Fire!"
Further down:
"O believers, obey God and His Messenger... The worst of beasts in God's sight are surely the deaf and dumb, those that do not understand. Had God known any good of them He would have made them hear; and had He made them hear they would still turn away, heedless".

Later:
"The unbelievers shall be herded into hell...He shall heap the depraved one upon the other... and deliver that pile into hell".

Sura 9 titled Repentance (which mentions a compact with polytheists presumably also at Medina):

"God is quit of polytheists, as is His Messenger...And announce to the unbelievers a torment most painful".
"Once the sacred months are shorm, kill the polytheists wherever you find the, arrest them, imprison them besiege them and lie in wait for them at every site of ambush".
"Fight those who do not believe in God or the ast Day, who do not hold illicit what God and His Messenger hold illicit, and who do not follow the religion of truth from among those given the Book, until they offer up the tribute, by hand, in humble mien".

There is a particular tone to all this stuff, isn't there? I wonder how the man who hums to Verdi, but thinks to Wagner reacts to it. I know how I do.
Yes, strong sounding stuff and refers to the Battle of Badr, which occurred in Arabia in the early seventh century and is not an edict for general application.
That's alright then.
And sura 9?
^ we're working on that. :0)
That's my boy!
Khandro, my English is fine, but I have my doubts about yours. You’re making it up. I see no ‘limits’ mentioned. You think yourself philosophical but, as an apologist, – which you clearly are - how little you really understand. If you’re determined not to educate yourself, as appears to be the case, this says all you need to know.

“They [the infidel] desire that you should disbelieve as they have disbelieved, so that you might be (all) alike; therefore take not from among them (the unbelievers) friends until they flee (their homes) in Allah's way; but if they turn back, then seize them and KILL them wherever you find them, and take not from among them a friend or a helper.” (Sura 4, verse 89).

That ^ from the alleged religion of peace.
Ding ding. Round 2345.....
And still no result.
Actually I think it 's round 2346 - but who's counting? ;o)
Vulkan – Do you suffer from learning difficulties? That is the only reason I can think of when you say that Verse 190 has nothing to do with 191 and 192.

Mibn – Thanks for confirming that you are selective when it comes to use your brain.

Naomi is just doing what she does the best. Ignoring what others are saying and singing her own songs.

Khandro – Thanks for pointing out that Naomi can’t (or does not want to) understand even plain English when it does not suit you. But be careful now she will attack you with all of her companions and “Naomi got it spot on” yelling people.
Seems to me you're all singing the same song but in the wrong key.
Zacs, Haaaa! Morecambe, Wise, and André Previn! Who could forget?!!

Keyplus, I’d like to say “Must try harder” – but it’s futile because it won’t work.
No doubt there are a some deranged Muslims who take these things at face value, similarly there are some deranged atheists likewise, but I have visited many countries which comprise among their populations both Muslim and non-Muslim communities (including the UK), and though I wouldn't say they all live in complete peace and harmony, I haven't seen a single non-Muslim having had all his fingers chopped off.
The practice in mediaeval times was meant to disable the amputee from the ability to wield a sword, as we once did in Merrie England to enemy archers, by removing their middle and index fingers leaving them unemployable, but sparing their lives.
Ahh, those were the good old days!
Khandro, //No doubt there are a some deranged Muslims who take these things at face value,//

Face value? I rest my case.

//I haven't seen a single non-Muslim having had all his fingers chopped off.//

How about heads? Ken Bigley?
-- answer removed --
English bowmen rained death on French soldiers. If they'd captured one it wouldn't have been a finger they'd have cut, more likely a throat.
