Believers often accuse atheists of having something missing because they are not interested in believing in deities. The evidence points to the opposite as many believers appear to be searching for something that they cannot find yet most atheists seem to be content with atheism and complete in themselves spiritually.

What are your thoughts on the "soul", Naomi?
Had their lust for conquest been tempered by religious faith the world might have been a better place.
Unfortunately, religious faith doesn't seem to temper anything- just the opposite.
Pixie, A possibility - but it's great shame that the concept has been hijacked by religion to such an extent that people prefer to believe in the supernatural rather than what might be something that is entirely natural. I really don't think we end up sitting on a cloud playing a harp. For me, a piano, perhaps, but not a harp. ;o)
Members of the Society of Friends refused to fight.
I say again, Sandy, no atheist ever went to war to convert people to atheism...
Yes...i agree a piano is far more likely ;-)
:o)

Good idea, Naomi
And could religion not be used as a cloak to hide territorial ambition?
Incidentally, I'm not sure it would be harps, either. I like to Imagine countless millions of tambourines being used to help praise the Lord.
Night Naomi x
May choirs of Angels sing us to our rest :-)
I'd prefer some heavy metal please, sandy?
Not my cup of tea but each to their own.

Gasscarp - "... If the atheists are so content and complete how come they lurk in this section constantly trying to get believers to justify/prove validity of their beliefs. I would say the opposite is true and those who have the gift of faith are the contented ones..."

I wasn't aware that atheists comment on this section of AB in order to, "... get believers to justify/prove [the] validity of their beliefs...". I thought that this is where atheists get to debate with theists and ask questions about the logic of theist's beliefs.

If you believe in God, that's your prerogative. If you want to come on this section of AB and argue your case for the existence of your God and the legitimacy of your chosen religion then good for you. But don't expect to get an easy ride. Always remember that it is you making the extraordinary claim that "God" made the world we stand on (and the universe within which it inhabits) and created us and every other living thing in existence. The burden of proof is upon you to prove this extraordinary claim.

The gist of your post seems to suggest that the horrible atheists are somehow bullying the lovely, harmless theists. Awww diddums. Grow up Gasscarp.
Lol! Perfect sandy, thanks! X

Really! - by whom? Examples please.

Khandro, you seriously expect me to have remembered all the theistical comments about my inability to accept the existence of god and the theists who made them? You may have to take my word, just as you take the word of theists and philosophers.
Whew! talk about start the day right.
birdie - you state:
I wasn't aware that atheists comment on this section of AB in order to, "... get believers to justify/prove [the] validity of their beliefs...".
you go on to say:
it is you making the extraordinary claim that "God" made the world we stand on and created us and every other living thing in existence. The burden of proof is upon you to prove this extraordinary claim.

I think your second statement illustrates perfectly that this is exactly what you are doing!

And when you run out of things to say round off with a few personal insults - wonderful!
