There are plenty of well-debated reasons for not wanting to be a JW, but here is another possibility ::

Religious leader behaving exactly as he wants because he can?

Surely not!!
That's a ludicrous argument, mikey4444. The man is a rapist and would be whether he was a JW or not. That sort of behaviour is not something encouraged or endorsed by JW and there are bad people in every religion, every section of society - even some atheists are bad.

Not all black cab drivers are rapists like John Worboys

Apologies, I missed out the word 'alleged'. He is an alleged rapist.
Thanks, hc. I don't know much about JW's . From the OP I thought it was the norm and that they all did it.
hc: I think the point is, he isn't quite like everybody else, because he used his position as an 'elder' to dominate the vulnerable within his church.

Khandro...yes, that is what I meant and its my fault for not being specific enough. JW's are no more subject to being perverts and rapists than any other religion.

Daft, misguided, confused and muddle-headed perhaps but not necessarily criminal.
I agree hc. All rape is about abusing a position of power to dominate someone more vulnerable. I will read the link now, though.

A few weeks ago I told of a man knocking on my door and telling me he represented the blind, it transpired he was a Jehovahs witness. Goodlife immediately denied the man was a JW, it was wonderful how he knew this. No doubt if he replies on this thread it will be to defend this man, dreadful mistake etc etc, and he will be totally innocent. I will be surprised if he shows up but if he does it will be to paste a totally irrelevant tract.
I do not intend to cover over what is obviously a horrible and horrendous act. But not all JW’s are like that.

This was something that happened 10 years ago and since that time such events are reported and acted upon as soon as a complaint is made.

This man will no longer be a JW, and he will have been removed as an elder. If he is not already disfellowshipped from the congregation, he soon will be.
Jehovah God does not tolerate such actions and neither will his organisation. Sometimes things are covered over for years but eventually, all is revealed. (2 Peter 2:1-3.)
I dont think we actually need another reason, they are cranks and generally that is how they are seen by the public. The fact that some are more weird or perverted than other is nether here nor there.
\\ But not all JW’s are like that. //
If your religion is as perfect as you often suggest there shouldn't be any "like that".
If your looking for a life of ease, you will not find it here...Expect to be hated...
you will be abused...by people who are shocked by their own reaction...
Why do we put up with it?
Because Jesus asked us...
(John 13:15) For I set the pattern for you, that just as I did to you, you should also do.
(Luke 4:43) But he said to them: “I must also declare the good news of the Kingdom of God to other cities, because for this I was sent.”
Alledgedly.

he denies the charges and the case continues.

You are jumping the gun rather getting in your conclusion before the jury has decided.
apart from being an atheist...?
Just another case of the detrimental of an archaic social philosophy deeply infused with misogyny and ignorance.

Religion, by design, prevents advancement.
What is an 'archaic social philosophy'?
I shouldn't be posting on this topic, having had a post removed.

Only doing this to get my total posts up,from the dreaded number 666.
