There is an interesting discussion on Noah's Ark in today Guardian. As an educated person and a rationalist, I can't see how the Ark could possibly have been big enough to get one animal of each species on board, let alone two. Presumably dionsaurs would also have been included.

Are there any Christian ABer's, preferably British ones, not Americans, that can help explain it please ? No cut and pasting from the Bible please...just facts will do !

It's allegorical.
" Presumably dionsaurs would also have been included."

Wrong!

Dinosaurs wouldn't be included. They never existed. The "fossils" are put there by the Devil to confuse us.
i'm no expert but i don't think noah saw any dinosaurs
I agree with Canary and of course Dinosaurs were long gone by then.
It wasn't just two of each animal either:-
Take with you seven of every kind of clean animal, a male and its mate, and two of every kind of unclean animal, a male and its mate, and also seven of every kind of bird, male and female, to keep their various kinds alive throughout the earth.
—Genesis 7:2-3
the dinosaurs are like the unicorns

Mamy...not according to some more intellectually-challenged "born again Christians"...see this !

Its easy to make fun of daft people like the ones that make a tour of this place in Kentucky but millions of Americans believe this nonsense. They really do ! And its not just across the pond...they operating over here in Britain and even running schools ::

I am still hoping that someone here on AB can explain why they believe the Noah's Ark story. I am really interested !
//It's allegorical. //

No ... it's rubbish.

Graham ...its getting worse ! The Ark must have been the size of Australia !
//I am still hoping that someone here on AB can explain why they believe the Noah's Ark story.//

Because it's in the bible. It's as simple as that.
Mikey, Dinosaurs existed millions of years before the world was created.

aelmpvw...let me help you with any lingering doubt !

The last dinosaurs died after about 65.5 million years ago. This might help ::

"The Cretaceous-Tertiary extinction event, or the K-T event, is the name given to the die-off of the dinosaurs and other species that took place some 65.5 million years ago. For many years, palaeontologists believed this event was caused by climate and geological changes that interrupted the dinosaurs' food supply. However, in the 1980's, father-and-son scientists Luis (1911-88) and Walter Alvarez (1940-) discovered in the geological record a distinct layer of iridium--an element found in abundance only in space--that corresponds to the precise time the dinosaurs died. This suggests that a comet, asteroid or meteor impact event may have caused the extinction of the dinosaurs. In the 1990's, scientists located the massive Chicxulub Crater at the tip of Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula, which dates to the period in question"

ratter15... ???????????????? How can anything have existed BEFORE the world was created ?
Like so much in the Bible, the content is dependent on the writers' knowledge of the world at the time. They didn't know much but did their best. It must have been plausible to them that one ship could contain all known animals in the quantities demanded.
they were teeny tiny animals back them
Question Author
How can it have been plausible ? There are all sorts of problems associated with this story. The logistics alone raises questions. What about all the extraordinary amounts of food needed to feed the millions of animals involved ? There must have been truly epic amounts of dung. How did Noah stop the tigers killing the sheep ? Or where did he keep all the birds ? Did he install huge tanks to keep the fish in ?

I know that people were uneducated all those years ago and didn't have the ability to check out what they were being told but what I am interested in is why, at the start of the 21st century, educated people, with our mass communication abilities, including the WWW, still believe stuff like this ? Its just not a few, like those that believe the Earth is flat. They were nearly in the White House for goodness sake !
Fred, //It must have been plausible to them that one ship could contain all known animals in the quantities demanded. //

You have a point there. A couple of camels, donkeys, a few dogs, cats, goats, insects, perhaps ..... no kangaroos, tigers, or elephants in the middle east. ;o)
For goodness sake - haven't you seen the Tardis ?

The Ark was a much more sophisticated version.
