The word “know” can carry a wide range of meanings. For example, a person Who had never met him might say: “Yes, I know David Cameron. He is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.” On the other hand, another person who has, on numerous occasions, seen the Prime Minister might acknowledge: “No, I don’t know Mr. Cameron.”

I am reading this thread and cannot quite get my head round the fact that the OP was about knowing God, and now it seems to have gravitated towards Christmas, Santa Claus, the Watchtower Organisation and even to a little mudslinging.

Surely a person is entitled to his/her belief without having to state every time that he/she is a believer and have to battle...

I know "God's Restaurant". It's located in Athens.......

They've got a few gods around the place as well.

DT, I almost said 'the food there is divine', but I thought better of it. I'll only get told off. :o/
I know about the unicorn, I know about Santa, the Easter bunny and the flying spaghetti monster, I have also heard mention of this crazy character in the sky that is supposed to save us all *Chortlesplutters* as if!!! I dont need saving!
Can you wonder why we don't take you seriously? You choose an utterly presumptuous name and dish out narrowly based dogma as if it were the one and only truth.
People are not fools!
///The editor has listed this section as Religion & Spirituality.
But all I find here is mockery and ridicule.
I feel the editor should rename this section because you cannot get any serious answers, other than jokes, ridicule and nonsense.
I asked a serious question but all I have received is stupid remarks without any real meaning.///

"If people don't want their beliefs laughed at, they shouldn't have such funny beliefs."
I know this Redeemer liveth.

People are entitled to mock other people's beliefs if they so please, I generally try not to, because unless it actually harms another living thing it's no skin off my nose what you believe, but nor should it be to you what I believe, and that is where religion or more usually Christianity has issues. You all always try to convert and ram things down people's throats, because that is the nature of your religion to ' spread the good news'.you can't be offended when people consider your wonderful truth as slightly ridiculous and therefore take the mick out of it.
'It's now very common to hear people say, "I'm rather offended by that", as if that gives them certain rights. It's no more than a whine. It has no meaning, it has no purpose, it has no reason to be respected as a phrase. "I'm offended by that." Well, so flump ing what?' —Stephen Fry
By Jove! that's good, Nox.
It is, seadogg,

and, naomi, I had similar thoughts but along the lines of "manna from heaven"

If you told us about yourself and whether you feel that you 'know' your god, and why, then you may get some better answers back.

Instead you have hidden behind some 'Mr Cameron' and 'meaning of words' rubbish that is totally impersonal, could have been copied out of anywhere, and nobody can relate to - so you get the answers you have got.
Keep up the good work, Goodlife. You and I know that many who come to mock stay to listen.
so calling "a spade a spade", this part of the thread can be summarised as, "write shyte, get shyte replies."

Do you want to try again?
Why so patronising goodlife? just because most of the subscribers to AB are UK based you don't need to use David Cameron as an example. In fact there are many David Camerons and I don't know any them. I think perhaps President Obama might have been a better example (I don't know him either) we have heard of him in Old Europe.

If you mean "know" as in the Biblical sense, then to my knowledge Mary (mother of His son Jesus) was reputedly the only one to have ever been in any position to "know" God . . . biblically speaking?
Don't be silly Sandy, Atheists don't come to mock, they come for a stimulating discussio. However since that is not possible with a proselyting pedant we have no recourse to anything other than mockery. Bigotry and Ignorance sadly, are all that is spouted by the evangelising idiots that frequent this site. You do yourself no favours by supporting them. The 8th commandment has been sorely taxed of late.

Solomon, said “He that is walking with wise persons will become wise, but he that is having dealings with the stupid ones will fare badly.”—Prov. 13:20.

Did you know Hebrew word for “stupid” does not merely denote one’s lacking knowledge. Rather, it implies that the “stupid ones” are insensible to moral truth. Obviously Such individuals may toil endlessly and tire themselves out; yet, they accomplish virtually nothing truly worthwhile. How true with atheists.
Goodlife, //Solomon,said “He that is walking with wise persons will become wise, but he that is having dealings with the stupid ones will fare badly.”—Prov. 13:20.//

Take note.
No, No-one does.

You only know what you choose to believe.

Right?

Which means nothing, because I can believe anything I want - today i think i will believe that ..erm... all cats are 14ft high and can secretly speak ... doesnt make it real.
Solomon says, "Touch your nose."

. . . just checking.
