Court Rules In Favour Of "Gay" Asylum Seekers.

A Supreme Court ruling has allowed two homosexuals, from Cameroon and Iran respectively, to gain asylum here in the UK because they claimed that being sent back to their own countries would be detrimental to their safety, as homosexuals.
Is this a humane judgement to be accepted without comment?
Or could it be the opening of the floodgates as a means to bogus asylum seekers merely claiming to be homosexual in order for their applications to succeed?
The only thing which troubles me is: how does one prove that s/he is a homosexual?

I agree with you Orcad, and what a stupid statement from Lord Rodger's verdict.
What a pillock!!!

Quote.

"Just as male heterosexuals are free to enjoy themselves playing rugby, drinking beer and talking about girls, so male homosexuals are to be free to enjoy going to Kylie concerts, drinking exotically coloured cocktails and talking about boys"
i hope the severe cuts in housing benefit do not effect them too much as flats in the gay village command high rents.
Have I lost track of time? It's not 1st April is it?
It seems that anyone, from anywhere in the world, who is having "problems" in their own country is free to come to the UK, claim "asylum" (ha ha) and we have to keep them.

While I have no problem with SOME asylum (like Jews and Poles before and during the second world war) we now have people arriving from all sorts of countries who are having a local war (like from Somalia).

Now search on "Somali gangs" in Google and see how many violent gangs of Somali there are here pushing hard drugs.

I hate the fact this country is being corrupted by so much immigration from so many people we just dont want here.

Our governments wont be happy till we have civil war on the streets of the UK.
The judges frequently bring in these seemingly nonsensical verdicts. Freeing terrorists, allowing illegals immigrants to remain on technicallities, paying compensation to criminals on spurious grounds, allowing bail when common sense says they shouldn't have done so. etc,etc..
However are the judges to blame ? They have to apply the law whatever their personal feelings may be. We have accepted all these Human Rights , Safety at Work , Ability to Seek Asylum , Prison Reform acts etc. Anyone who has been to court knows everything is in favour of the defense. Some judges may be at fault but I believe most are not they just apply the laws which we have made. It's the Laws that are wrong not the judges.
trt - why is that a stupid statement?

its just emphasising that britain accepts freedom of expression in all forms without vindication

Sensible Controls need to be applied to All immigration including Asylum Seeking. Immigration - legal and illegal - EU and non EU - needs a fresh and full open national debate over a reasonable period of time - culminating with a full spectrum of varying policy proposals being drawn up and put to the electorate via a national referendum.

We should be prepared to disregard/set aside/detach from All EU and non EU restrictive immigration agreements and conventions - including the 1951 UN Convention on Refugees. Let the British people democratically decide the shape of Immigration into Britain with sensible controls - by national referendum
Asylum seekers threatened with deportation will suddenly claim to be gay and our soft-as-sh1te country will let them stay

Gays are always bleating about wanting equal rights, yet in reality they get special treatment
Yes they do Joe....because they have to be protected from people with attitudes like you in countries where their human rights are not recognised....
joe-luke,once again I am with you on this issue.
If their countries don't accept gays then that ain't our problem
they'll soon follow our George

Won't be long before Supreme Court rules that asylum should be granted to people who if sent home would be required to grow a beard or wear a Burka contrary to their human rights.
I think the system is wide open to abuse.
In many countries even those with relatively good records on human rights GAy men and women are harrassed, attacked and killed because of how they are...at least 6 countries still have the option of the death penalty for homosexuality or sodomy Yet it seems some are unwilling to allow this as a reason to flee to a safer place.
I agree it is difficult to prove... but given a degree of observation reasonably easy to disprove.... Iran is one of the countries where sodomy is a capital offence, cameroon isn't , but it is still a criminal act
Violence against gay men especially in traditional male dominated societies seems to be considered acceptable and unless someone has experienced long term harrassment and the poblems resulting from it it is probably unfair to adopt a hard line stance based on lack of understanding of the situation. Rather gays than those fleeing from gang or tribal warfare who bring their violence with them
Alan Turing seeks assylum from 1950s Britain where Homosexuality is illegal and he will kill himself if sent home

(Maybe a book in there)

Shall we send him back?
Why can't they keep their sexuality to themselves then they could remain in their own country. Thats what happened in Britain until fairly recently where homosexuality was a crime. In fact the armed forces tolerate gays if they keep it under their hats and don't go blabbing on about it. The Americans have a saying for it which escapes me.

All this crazy law will do will be to encourage the millions of gays in faraway countries to come here as if we don't have enough ourselves without adding to it.
The Yanks saying in the military is 'Dont Ask, don't tell'

http://www.religioustolerance.org/hom_mili.htm
"Don't ask; don't tell" has been jettisoned.

There is no bar to gays serving in the forces in UK and moves are progressing in USA to ensure that there is no bar there, either.
i'm not advocating carte blanche, but we aint talking general teasing and calls of nancy boy and jibes about barbra streisand and liza minelli here, we are talking about real and vioent, probably fatal persecution.

if you slam the door shut on this, then you might as well close the door on all those persecuted and stoned for equally apocryphal and antiquated tribal traditions that mean being different means you should not exist in their society.
