Simon Cowell to become Sir Simon and Joanna Lumley to become a Dame.

About time too.

Or not?

What about Victoria Wood for Damehood? And Julie Walters? And shouldn't Trevor McDonald now become a lord, or king or something?

Well if entertaining the masses is criteria for a gong then I should at least be an OBE!
Simon Cowell?
The bloke who's done his best to turn the music business into the modelling business?
Incarceration in the tower would be a more suitable reward.
Sir Simon? He's going to be even more bigheaded now. How will his Frankenstein head fit in the door. ;o)
Lumley yes, Cowell no.

Was against Cowell getting it because he is a Salad Bowl and I dislike his shows but it appears that it is parly due to his efforts in creating the Haiti charity single which has softened my view a little.
Salad Bowl hahaha, that wasn't what I wrote and on sober reflection is rather disturbing. A pot for tossing.
Salad Bowl?
Simon Cowell can afford to give to charities with all the money he has made out of the xfactor and talent programmes, I think these gongs are being cheapened nowadays, why give Kelly Holmes and that cycling fellow honours. Joanna Lumley is an all round good citizen she should have an award.

I totally agree.

Giving people titles for being a great actor or actress is really not what the honours system was designed to do. Neither is giving people knighthoods for basically being good at their chosen professions whilst earning a small fortune.

'Sir' Elton John...
'Dame' Judi Dench...
'Sir' Alex Furguson...

For crying out loud – these people are not risking their lives to save others or discovering cures for cancer. They're good at what they do but so what? Thousands of people up and down the country are good if not exceptional at what they do but receive not even a thanks.

The whole system has been given over to the 'lovies' and the media hungry none entities. It'll be 'Dame Katie Price' next.

I'm not fan of the tabloids but I take my hat off to the Daily Mirror and its Pride Of Britain Awards.

Honestly, if a run-of-the-mill rag like the Mirror can pull off an annual event where ordinary members of the public are recognised for their outstanding contribution to society, then I'm sure a Government can do the same.

I'd much rather see 'Stan from Hull' receive an OBE for his outstanding achievements in providing foster care for vulnerable children than I would seeing Simon Cowell getting a knighthood for basically being a very successful record producer/reality TV presenter who earns literally millions and millions of pounds a year.
Why not just go for it and give Victoria Becks and Cheryl Cole the VC,GC?
Sir,Dame,Lord.......not the same as it was,for a real cannot do without honour.I give up.

Katie Price should be honoured for highlighting the dangers of Botox use.
An for her services to medicine... volunteering fotr a clinical trial to see how often a set of implants can be changed without your mammaries dropping off..

I'm happy with entertainers with a long history of charitable work being honoured but I think sir/damehoods should have a minimum age so it is for a genuine lifetime of service...

The lovely Joanna being an exception Personally I think she should be given a peerage and drafted into the government...
"If he does give the go ahead, Mr Brown is expected to recommend peerages for former Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott and his long suffering aide Sue Nye, whom he publicly slated during the 'Bigotgate' election scandal."

Lord Prescott of Jaguar - Help !

Poor Sue though probably more than earned it.
he didn't slate Sue Nye publicly, it was private until someone else broadcast it.
I do NOT agree with the celebraty culture nor their promotion to 'Sir' status.

end of.
I agree youngmaf
Are they serious? Simon Cowell, don't know what I'm more bemused by, that he will get an OBE or that someone reads the Daily Mail.
birdie,

Well said. Totally agree.
