For those who don't know, "Mister" is posher than "Doctor" in the medical profession...
i assume therefore that you are a consultant - retired .

How / why did this business of Consultants being known as ' Mr/ Mrs ' come into being
Sqad is wise doc and clever,
He now lives in sunnier climes,
His pool is gold plated, luxourious
And he eat steaks and imbibes fine wines.

His advice and good humour is certain
To gain all the ladies attention
His prowess in the art of seduction
Is said to be too good to mention.

So I'm saving to go to Minorca
I am nearly paid up for the fare
Except that by the time I get there
Half the ladies on here will be there.
stuey et al. Not going into the Dr/Mr thing. What I was questioning is that people who have qualified as a doctor but are no longer keeping up registration requirements, can say that they are A DOCTOR . They may well keep the courtesy title and use whatever letters after their name relate to whatever professional organisation they belong to.
Bazile........many , many theories BUT:

Back in the 18th century, if you took a University examination then you called be called a professional and all the "others" formed into a Guild.

Now surgeons didn't take an examination, they sort of " apprenticed " themselves to a surgeon and when he thought that they were "ready" they were appointed surgeons to the hospital.

However our surgeons had to be put into some "pigeon hole" so they were joined with the Barber's guild and it was known as the |Barber's and Surgeons Guild.

BUT when the Royal college of surgeons was formed, admission was by examination which made them "proper doctors" but the surgeons decided that they were better than "proper doctors and decided to remain Mrs.
Reading the various comments, even though he, Sqad is a mystery man, he generates an appeal to women...well he does to me. Maybe it's his sense of humour coupled with his honesty and a touch of je ne sais quoie...if that's come out spelt right. All this flattery might go to his head ... Better watch out!
"Mr's"....LOL

Squad, the theory regarding the origins of the red and white barber pole sort of meshes, in a way, with what you said.
As long as it's just his head it goes to, Ethel......☺
And then sqad some enterprising young surgeon lopped off the 's' and he became a Mr.

Ethelburga, I imagine sqad is honest and level headed enough to keep the cyber bunnies at arms length.
The mystery lies maybe in the choice of moniker.?
sqad is also very knowledgeable about silken garments. I can testify to that.
Sorry, Mister: I meant Sqad.

stuey...yes.....barbers of old were also "blood letters" so surgeons joining up with them seemed an obvious move.
Hi squad remember me from Nottingham General as it was called then .
