which are the highest mountains? Everest is the highest above sea level, and there are two others - the highest peak from the centre of the earth and the highest mountain, but whose base is below sea level. Unfortuately, I cannot remember the names of the latter two. Can any one enlighten me please?

You may be thinking of Mauna Kea in Hawaii. It is the world's tallest mountain from base(on the seafloor) to top! It rises 33,482 feet , reaching 13,800 feet above sea level.

I don't know what you mean with "the highest peak from the centre of the Earth", sorry.
The other one's Chimborazo, in Equador.
(For Wildwood - this peak is the farthest point on Earth from the Earth's centre. That's because the Earth bulges at the equator due to its spin).
