About a month ago i awoke to find a sort of wound or bite from something on my left foot right on the vein and the skin around was hard and lumpy, only a tiny area, i squeezed the puss out and wiped withg Savlon and cotton wool and thought that would be it, it would heal on it's own, but, a month later, i have a really irritating itch on the site and there seems to be 2 holes, it looks like a bitg spiders bite but i live in London so i don't think that could be possible. when i sratch it the itching goes away and then both holes seem to seep globs of clear watery pus or something. This has happened every day for a month, i have'nt got round to the doc's yet but i'm quite worried about what it could be. I am also currently 3 months pregnant.

Thanks

Hi there ... one hole and I would have said horsefly as they can take ages to heal, still have mine after nine weeks ! I would suggest that, pregnant or not, phone your surgery straight away. If the doctors are busy there are usually some nurse practioners on site. They are very good at diagnosing. If you need to see a doctor they will refer you. If you need a prescription they can get one authorised for you.Whether it was a bite or sting, things like this can lead to secondary infections very quickly and they can be worse than the original bite. I am now on antibiotics for one that had ulcerated and I left mine about five weeks thinking that tomorrow it would get better. Please ring them in the morning and let us know the outcome.
ps ... I hope my reply doesn't appear stern but I am now paranoid about bites and I don't want you to finish up with a leg full of scars like mine xx
oooh I know how you both feel as I'm very sensitive to bites & a few yrs ago had one on my face that ulcerated! Had a jaw like desperate dan for a week & now have a small scar.
Please don't squeeze bites, keep it dry & as earthakitten says see your gp or nurse asap who will probably tell you which anti - histamine it's ok for you to take. (my daughter in law took a-h's while pregnant for hayfever)
hope it gets better soon.
Definitely a horsefly bite i would say. They really swell up and go nasty and they do last for ages. As the others say, have a word with the doctor or nurse, my daughter is pregnant and she was bitten by a horse fly a couple of weeks ago, she saw her midwife yesterday and she was not at all concerned, just told her to put TCP on it.

Thanks guys... But it's soooo itchy! It's killing me. They scab over and then they start to itch and i have to scratch like a mad woman which peels the scab then the pus bulges out like a bubble, but it never drips. I hope they don't tell me to go home and put savlon, this is not enough!

Will try to get to docs this week.

Thanks again .x

P.s; what's a horsefly? is it like a mosquito?
I got bitten by a horsefly last monday, bit itchy not too bad put a bit of savlon on thought nothing about it, tuesday evening my wrist started to swell a bit and get more itchy, by wednesday morning my hand was twice it's normal size, and very painful due to the skin stretching so much.
So i went to the doctors, and i hadn't noticed but there were red lines travelling up my veins(which he marked the end of with a biro) towards my armpit ( nymph gland ) the doctor put me on the strongest anti-biotics he could, and said to take a double dose straight away and that if the track marks(red lines) moved any further up my arm, i would have to go in to hospital on a drip, The whole of my forearm had swollen up as well, it is now friday and the swelling is finally going down slowly, but after the pain of wednesday night i would urge anyone bitten by a horsefly to see the nurse or a doctor, apparently they are carrying something different this year, a friend in the hospital told me today. Please don't wait for it to go on it's own, it can be dangerous.
