Self Scan Checkouts Are A Nightmare

I went shopping to Morrisons with my parents and what should have been an easy task took over 20 minutes with there being 1 person serving at the self scan checkouts of 8 people who all had problems at the same time such as incorrect item in bag, take the last item out of the bag item not recognised etc etc. Never again it should come with a health warning for people suffering from high blood pressure not to use them.

It was that note that you printed off, Frank......remember the silver watermark strip next time.
morrisons self serve tills are appalling i avoid them like the plague
Damn, knew there was something wrong with printer. :-)
"Only when prats arrive with vegetables that they haven't created a scanning label for..."

And presumably those that they have not been down to the farm for and dug up themselves!!

The answer to this is simple. All shoppers should simply boycott these machines (which seldom seem to work properly without intervention), leave them idle and lobby the stores to introduce a proper checkout system where people are assisted with their purchases. My local B&Q has a habit of providing these machines as the only checkout option for long periods of the day. Whenever I shop there when this is the case I ask the staff if they will open a conventional till. If they will not I seek out the manager, give him my goods to return to the shelves and simply inform him I will not shop in his store whilst he fails to provide proper staffing. It's no good moaning about these things; only when people in sufficient numbers do something about it will matters change. If you're not prepared to do that you will just have to put up with it because big organisations will get away with whatever they can to increase profits.
I always use them now, they can be irritating but that is outweighed by the speed and there's never a queue for them at my store anyway.
They are an absolute boon for the gypsy kids here who have worked out how to use them without paying for some of the things. Funnily enough, they always go for the machine which is right next to the exit door. And right under the noses of the staff who are too busy gassing to notice.
How do they do it? A bit of sleight of hand? I confess, I was tempted just to put the bottle into my rucksack without bothering a member of staff.
I find them very easy. Co-op is the best in my experience.
They just pay for most things and whip out the odd item from the basket and hide it. There are always several of them and they all crowd around the machine so nobody can see what they`re doing. I`ve witnessed it a couple of times but as I say, if the staff can`t be more vigilant, then it`s not my business.
Co-op self service is best. Not the actual supermarket
I like 'em if I've got less than maybe six items. Quicker than queuing up at a proper till, the more you use them the more you get used to them and the less things go wrong.
I use them for small amounts of shopping but I always have a problem in Sainsbury's when I put my own bag on the bag bit. And I have a problem scanning some vouchers in Boots or using advantage points to pay for things.
New Judge sounds a delight in a store! LOL
I love the self-service tills. And what a good way to see if you'd like to do it as a job! :o)
But there will be fewer checkout jobs the more of these take off.
I must admit the Grandchildren love scanning the shopping when they are here - we have a rota to save fights.
I'm surprised they've been going as long as they have. Surely they're a delight for the less than honest folk?
If I only have a few items I put them directly on the scale and bag them after I have paid. The good thing with co-op is they will go to the cigarette counter for you.
The ones in Morrisons are really bad. I gave up the other day and abandoned my shopping at the till as I couldn't get it to take my £10 note. I went to another shop instead. Tescos and M&S generally work ok.
The amount of thieving that went on when Morrison's introduced hand held scanner was ridiculous
