Traditionally the etiquette is that you don't tip the owner. If she/he is your regular stylist however, a nice gift at christmas and on his/her birthday if you know it is a good idea.

I always thought you tipped the junior who washes your hair and also the stylist, but not if the owner has styled your hair.
I may be wrong as it it years since I visited a salon
I always tip whoever does my hair. Sometimes it's the owner, sometimes it's a senior stylist. I tip whoever washes my hair too.
I do if I like the result..
I usually give the head-washer a tip in her pocket and leave another tip on the counter in case the junior doesn't get a fair share.
Ray at "Haircut Sir!!" seems quite happy with my "round that up to £6" ....
Trevor Sorbie runs his hair products empire from his salon in The Lanes.

In the time it takes him to cut your hair, he's probably earned more than you'll make all month, so it would seem a bit odd to tip him a few quid.

So, as has already been suggested ... the tip would go to whoever were the most junior people involved in you cut ... hair washer, sweeper upper, or whatever.
They`re the person who is making all the profits so I wouldn`t bother. I have often wondered what the correct etiquette is though. There used to be a woman who answered etiquette questions in the Mail on Sunday and I asked her your question. She wrote back to me. She didn`t answer my question but told me to buy her book. I didn`t.

Only tipped the junior as he washed my hair.
Didn't seem appropriate to tip the owner.
Spent over £200 so think that was enough!!!!
wisdom says you can leave money for staff or individuals, but owners should not be tipped per se!

BUT if its a really small place and she did all the work, then go ahead, i say!
I know this sounds a bit mean but I work full time in an office and I never get tipped by my clients / customers. These people are getting a wage for doing their job like - as do shop staff, office staff, teachers, dentists etc.
