Just been slaughtered in a game of scrabble. 340/230, almost at the end i noticed OH had spelled a word wrong, he had linx instead of lynx and it was on a treble! My fault for not realising but spitting feathers. We play a couple of times a week and every night when on holiday. How many of you play scrabble?

Mrs B always beats me at scrabble thats why I prefer upwords
only play with the Grandchildren these days :-)
I love playing scrabble.

I want to find out how the Facebook version works.

I know you can play on line, must find out how to do it. must be better than hearts or solitaire.
We play it every now and then but after half an hour the kids start faffing about making up words that don't exist then they start searching the dictionary for words, then the youngest knocks the board and all the tiles go flying everywhere, ring any bells anyone? lol
Quite agree carandrog. I don't play much these days but do like a game.
I played scrabble quite a lot with the last Mr Craft, and also backgammon.
Question Author
Craft, couldn't get the hang of Backgammon, I tried but wouldn't sink in!
No-one to play with - might look at on-line options as well.

carandrog - did the rules not change recently to allow proper nouns?

Yes Maj, think you are right there...

Not heard that LIK, we have a scrabble dictionary that still does not allow them so have never checked out any updates.
Question Author
Just checked on website and yes they have decided to include proper nouns.
We have decided to ignore this ruling and carry one as we were.
The rule change was for Scrabble Trickster - the media went mental around 6th April 2010 with the announcement by Mattel of the new game and many thinking the rule was applicable to all forms of Scrabble.

carandrog - I hated the news when I heard it & agree with your decision :-)

ABerrant - thanks for that! I've never heard of Trickster & it looks very silly indeed - IMO :-)
Question Author
Didn't fancy trickster either LIK
Also no one to play with but do like scrabble. It's great to encourage the kids to play even if they do cheat and use the dictionary and make up words. Broadens their vocabulary and teaches them how o make use of said dictionary.
I still play Scrabble (online), and it has entertained me during many boring spells in hotels overseas.
We used to play a game called Lexicon when we were small. It looks so simple now, but we loved it. I still have a pack of the cards.
I have also heard of a game called 'Banana' which got a great review recently in the DT.
Apparently, it's fun for all ages, even little ones.
It seems to work on the same principle as Dominoes - the words are joined in the same way.
Someone on AB might know it.
(I wish iPad would stop editing my text to make it gobbledygook).
Lexulous is online. I have been playing for years. I particularly like the strict version which allows you to put anything on the board. Your opponent can then challenge and you lose /or they win a turn depending on whether the word is correct. There are other versions on there which will not allow an incorrect word. I find it particularly satisfying to bamboozle with unusual English words...LOL If anyone would like to challenge me my Lexulous name is Anngel
Linx is an alternative spelling for Lynx may not be in the authorised scrabble list though
There is a game online called word feud, it's just scrabble, been playing there for about a fortnight now, you can invite your own friends to play or choose random opponents, I am really enjoying playing it, hence the reason I haven't been here as much.
