Do you pronounce the first D in Wednesday?

Is it supposed to be silent or pronounced?

I usually say Wensday.

I do say the first D - but then I have had 5 years of speach therapy!

I pronounce the"D" but it sounds like Wedensday!

Same as you, Hoppy.

Morning guys! Agree with Hopkirk - I say Wenseday (for Wednesday)

But my plain sounds like plane - which drives himself insane

I say wensday.

Often wondered about it though

I've never been sure of how to say it correctly so, for fear of a tap on the shoulder from the Pronunciation Police, i always say 'the day after Tuesday' 😊

silent

I tried to pronounce /d/ as an eight y old and was mercilessly teased. ( the class also got all its knickers in a knot with the river in London called Thay-mz

According to Google the first D is silent

I worked with a man who always pronouced the "silent" P/D in words such as psychology/comb. It made me think they must have been there for a reason and were dropped by successive generations mis-hearing or lazy.

i say wensday and also febuary not feb(r)uary

you'll draw the wrath of Woden, Margo.

I say something like Wednsday - the d is sort of there, my tongue touches my palate but doesn't quite touch out again.

And sort of Febrry - longer than Febry, shorter than February.

I had to stop and think and now I'm aware of it, I'm not sure!

the d is sort of there, my tongue touches my palate but doesn't quite touch out again.

this sounds like velaristion

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Velarization#:

usually /l/

it is more like the way americans pronounce the /t/ in Carter   cardddderrrr!

that is under /t/

Would you pronounce the Ps in Happisburgh?  Or the first M in Wymondham?  In Norfolk dialect you do sort of pronounce them but under your breath!

The correct pronounciation is Wendsday.

Wed (not Wen) -not a tribute band, by the way...

Worse still, I say Wensdee!

mundee

choosdee

oh and Saa-erdee!

If it is Wodin's day, isn't it disrespectful to not pronounce the d?
