Wasn't sure whether to put this on here or Animals and Nature. My niece sent me a link today about a "moron" who had his cat's ears pierced. What kind of saddo would inflict this on an animal?

I assumed it was a fake photo. FB is full of them.
I saw the picture somewhere the other day. It was a very young cat and its ears were pink and sore looking.

I try to have an open mind about most things - but can't see the up side of a cat wearing earrings.

can your niece confirm the authenticity, and if so - notify the RSPCA?
So it's OK to pierce a baby or a young child's ears but not a cat. Right.
It originates from the country of stupid ideas - in the USA they arm their ASPCA officers.

Wrong on all levels - piercings are a personal choice (which a pet or baby/small child) cannot give.
It's an old photo, I remember seeing it a few years ago.

Doesn't really excuse the despicable act I know, but luckily that one's not a recent happening.
What kid of saddo would inflict this on an animal -? Its ok for chavs to peice their babies ears then? Actually the Egyptians pierced their cats ears and apart from it being a bit stupid and perhaps a safety issue if it gets caught on something its surely just as bad and probably less painfull than docking a dogs tail
Not really any different to tagging a cow`s ears though (albeit for different reasons)
and sheeps and pigs ears and bulls noses
Docking dogs tails was worse, you can remove aN earring ,but can't put a tail back
Tail docking unless it's a working animal is now illegal, thank goodness.
That is so wrong - the cat will spend hours trying to get rid of the things, and probably tear its ears in the process. Wrong on so many levels.
"tail docking unless it`s a working animal is now illegal" Not for lambs it`s not.
well I did assume most folk knew I was talking about dogs ;-)

You're right bhg481, I don't agree with piercings on babies or young children either. Grandaughter (10) is desperate to have her ears pierced but hasn't a snowball's chance in hell at the moment according to her mother.
Some of the cats round here make ear-piercing shrieks in the night ;-)

Update from Cat Protection:
Cats Protection

Morning everyone. We've had dozens of reports regarding a kitten with pierced ears over the last 24 hours. We've had confirmation that the case took place in the USA in 2011, so would be a matter for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
We really appreciate the compassion and commitment to animal welfare shown by our supporters.
lol, Canary - it's probably because their owners are having them tattooed...
They used to tattoo dogs ears before microchips....
