Another week, another puzzle, another debut.
Straightforward and fairly easy. Once the phrase is found everything falls neatly.
Thanks D and A (?)

that should of course read : 35 8 19
There seem to be more folk than usual in the Friday Club this week. Count me in too - all pretty straightforward.
I would have been there too if I'd started before 10! Fine, but we must be due a tough one soon...
Must be your turn for the tip this week Trux ... though might you just be tempted to go for some (more?) Swiss Spirit in the 15.25 at York?
Two little questions: 1. Does anyone know if it's ok to send two Listeners in one envelope? 2. Is it possible to make the grid and the clues slightly bigger before you print it from the Times website? Computer skills are woefully lacking in my brain.
Waterloo - you can copy and paste the grid and clues into word. Then you can increase font size on clues. I think the grid comes out a bit bigger if you do this automatically. Started this at 10.30 last night and to my surprise did finish it in time for Friday club. PDMs came in reverse order - the words, the phrase and then the omitted letters in the clues. No complaints from me with the more straightforward puzzles, means I get to enjoy the weekend! And I too believe that there will be some horrors in store for us all.
Walterloo:

Yes you can definitely send two in one envelop; include both puzzle numbers on the envelop. I believe you can also make the grid bigger, but I do not know that with certainty.
Thanks to TheBear and AndrewG. I've played with copy and paste a bit already but now I know this is the best way I will fine tune it with more confidence.
cJ : if I had to put my neck out, I'd plump for a little each-way on Richard Hannon's LILBOURNE LAD in the Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket (14:35 UK) bit it's a pretty hot race with perhaps not enough evidence so far to judge many of these 2-y-o's and I don't want to be the one who breaks the AB run ...
As has been said, pretty straightforward. I found myself reflexively reaching for the highlighter, but just restrained myself. I wonder if an entry with the phrase highlighted would be marked as incorrect? I quite liked the equal division of seven.
Yes, Walterloo. JEGreen likes the ones that are submitted to be the same size as the one in the Times, but, for a working version of the Times website grid, if you copy it as rtf (copy grid, then paste it into your word document) you can shrink and expand it by simply highlighting it, then getting that arrow in the corner and pulling it outwards. If you submit a larger version, Mr Green puts a slip of paper with your name on it in with the other entries, so that they are all the same size, and everyone has an equal chance of being selected as a winner.
Very nice but a bit underwhelming. What with that and the rugby weekend looking a little flat
The walk to the paper shop this morning provided welcome respite from the rugby. Agree with some that clueing was somewhat too straightforward for Listener - would have been record time for me if not for slight hold-up in bottom left corner.
Just learned that one of our AB community won a prize - delighted!
Like others, one of the unclued entries puzzles me, via indirect definitions in the BRB. Enjoyed working out the clues with omitted letters. A good one to recommend as an introduction for newcomers to the Listener, though. And thanks to Cruciverbalist for the reference last week to the AZED wrong number - most enjoyable while awaiting Friday!
Ruthrobin: But just what size is the crossword in the Times? We only get it on line and it seems rather small as printed out. Also, would not wish to inconvenience JEGreen, so it would be good to know the desired size.
Thanks Ruthrobin. I've followed your guide and it works for me. Hope everyone has a good weekend now that we're all Listener free to do what we want!
Had an interesting experience waking up and then opening the Times Paper at the Listener section and seeing ... my name in there! Woot!

Okay, as for this one - doesn't look too hard, best get cracking! Mind, I already have a brand new BRB. Oh well.
I know this will sound like a daft question to some, but how I can I join in with this crossword ?
I also get it on-line and only rarely see the Times the morning after, but know that it is very small; I shrink the one I send to about 3 and a half inches square (when it is square) and include the text below (but, surprisingly JEG doesn't require the title). He says that you should be able to fit it into an envelope without folding if it is the right size. Perhaps someone with a ruler will measure this week's in the newspaper?
