Another week, another puzzle, another debut.
Straightforward and fairly easy. Once the phrase is found everything falls neatly.
Thanks D and A (?)

alid5, put your email address up and someone will send it to you - or buy today's Times - it is published on Saturday each week but some of us pay an annual subscription so that we get an early start. Sorry, folks, I am hogging this week's AB thread.
This page from the Listener site spells out what Mr Green would like.

http://listenercrossw...m/PDF/Misc/misc09.pdf

Following these instructions, this week's newspaper copy would be 132mm x 112mm

Normally my entries will just about fit in a C6 envelope without folding.
CJ : creditable 2nd at reasonable odds, never close enough to winner to threaten ...
Hooray - 2 weeks on the trot for me! Keep the new setters coming with nice puzzles like this for us virgin listeners!
Am attempting this for the first time, have got 75%. What is the 'BRB' referred to?
Nical - it's the big red book - Chambers!
This is my 2nd week Nical - good luck to you too!
Nical - BRB = Big Red Book = Chambers Dictionary
Thanks - that's a relief as I've got a copy! Will soldier on as I've still to work out what I need the BRB for.
Finished. Quickest solve ever, I think, for me anyway, at about 2 hours or less. Not the hardest listener but fairly well-constructed and a nice theme.
Have stalled - am not looking for an answer, just for someone to tell me if I've gone wildly wrong.
32 A. Local quake triggers return of fish spawn to Scotland (carp's relation) (6) did??a
@Nical...you have something wrong there, not much, just a small thing.
I do these things in small bursts, usually spread out till Sunday evening. That i finished before Saturday lunch suggests this was too easy
Going back a couple of weeks, do we think the solution in the current Times is the only acceptable one? I went for the 42 movement (perhaps luckily) but others had other approaches. Does it matter so long as a) we can justify our answer and b) we highlighted the quote.
@ Philoctetes - thanks, have corrected my mistake (which wasn't too major).Have got only three or four left to finish, so will battle on.
Finished!
.. nice effort Trux - and you did say each way. I opted for win only - and beaten by a 25/1 O'Brien runner - how often does that ever happen! Fortunately I had a nice each way saver in the Cesarewitch
.. oops, tell a lie. Just checked my account and I had done Lilbourne Lad for the place too. Nice surprise, and thanks Trux.
Philoctetes, you might enjoy the current discussion on Derek Harrison's message board.

Sounds as though you are OK so long as you highlighted the words of Galileo. I am not sure the suggestion of highlighting the entire grid next week is such a good one though :)
Except that, as there is no highlighting this week, highlighting becomes irrelevant! And if you actually highlight what is required, would you be failed if, for instance, you found the letters "Ruthrobin" in the grid and highlighted them just for fun?
Thanks borealis, it was fun wasn't it ? Regarding highlighting, there have been instances in the past where an inadvertent slip in 'extra' highlighting has been marked incorrect - if it's not requested, don't do it !
I agree that one should not do unrequired highlighting; however, note that extra highlighting in 4155 (presumably the string of EARTHs and the SUN) was apparently not penalized...I wish they would be consistently generous.
Regarding grid size: when I print directly from the website the grid I get is considerably smaller: about 83mm square. I am using IE 8 with a Canon print driver. I suspect that one just cannot expect that everyone's printer will do the same size for all printers, browsers and operating systems.

Note: if I print I get 2 pages so it is not doing "fit to page" printing. Just out of curiosity, the page break comes after the clue to 14 down. What do others get? How big is the grid when you print? Browser?
