I go to a Music quiz every Sunday night, we meet with good friends and have a laugh, my gripe is, the greedy breweries are closing our local down by charging extortionate rents, greedy barstards!!!!
sorry for the rant but I feel so sad that they have taken from us a good night...

Happened to a dear friend of mine and the lovely old building is empty, do agree with you.
I of course meant the dear friend was the landlady and had been there 23 years.
Pubs are closing down hand over fist down here, we used to have hundreds now we've got about twelve in the whole town.

boxy it was vey sad...
Was just off to bed but saw your post Bobbi. It's very sad isn't it. A lot of the pubs down here have closed down and been changed into flats, including the one hubby and I had. Breweries are just so greedy. My local changed hands in December and has not been the same since. We stay in a lot more now.
They should be part of the hub of community but as you say all the big breweries deal with the supermarkets too and do not want the bother of these buildings as well, so they price people out.
I worked for the breweries when the Beer Moopolies came in and pubs had to swap owners, seemed to go downhill after that. OH reckons the smoking/eating laws killed off a lot more - and people just don't have the money to spend pubbing these days, I know we don't.

Hi Jan, we meet and have a laugh, they are my dearest friends...what are they trying to do I ask myself?

That's a shame sis
We take it in turns now going round to each others' houses for a game of poker or trivial pursuit, or just for dinner or a bbq. A lot cheaper and you can invite who you want.

boxy I agree, me and Bill look forward to a Sunday where we meet and have a laugh, greedy ass-holes !!!!!
You'll just have to set up the quiz night in your front room bobbi, get a few beers in - probably be cheaper than going to the pub, and just as much of a laugh.

Bill doesn't care for drinking in the house and enjoys the atmosphere of the pub...me, I could do a house thing,,,but why should we?

all those seaside sarnies....wasted I tell yer...lol
my local is struggling,a lot of people only earn the minimum wage per hour and when its £2.95 a pint in yor local its no wonder people dont bother to go out anymore...waht a shame that its come to this because of corporate greed....
It's a shame when a village loses it's only pub to be turned into a private residence, these places will never come back and destroys the local community.
As i type this message I'm looking out of the window to where three bungelows are going up on the site of what used to be my local, a fine old pub that had stood there for nearly a hundred years. As you say Bobbi the breweries put the rents up the landlords have to put the beer up and the customers either drink less or move on to cheaper pubs, a vicious circle that ends up with many good old pubs going the way of my old local
Have you got a local community centre where you could organise a quiz between you and make some money for charity at the same time?
