Do you take great pleasure from your food, or is eating just something that you have to do to stay alive? I ask because I have recently realised that my attitude towards food has changed dramatically over the years. When I was a child, and for much of my adult life, I had little interest in food. But in recent years I have become something of a gourmet, and spend hours searching for new recipes and get much satisfaction from cooking elaborate meals for my family and friends. What's your relationship with food and cooking?

From being a child upwards, food was, butty jam, if you were lucky, veg soup, Cooked diner ( there was 6 in the family, father hardly worked) I am not a very big eater I tend to pick, with HGV Driving over the years I have learnt to go a long time without eating, I am the same now.
Morning, Rabet......my relationship with food is perhaps confusing....

I once loved cooking fantastic meals and entertaining.....til one day I thought....blow this....it's time consuming....and for me a bit boring.

I love good food.....fussy about where it comes from but I'm no longer going to cook it...there are things I love doing so spending time cooking is a no-no.
And I love salads.....

I do have a great farm shop nearby where I can stock up with ready meals....both my kids are great cooks.....and I have friends who are more than happy to be entertained here....if they bring the food......☺

Baking is different.....I can be arty farty and what I make lasts longer than a meal....x
I eat when I'm hungry and hunger is not something I feel ofen.

I enjoy cooking and feeding people...but I'm quite fussy myself.
Gness....I could live on salads.
Love tasty food (little and often) love eating it around the table rather than on the knees in front of the telly.
As a kid it was lots of stuff like chips n egg, fish fingers, burgers all with lashings of ketchup.

Not a big fan of the Sunday roast though.
I probably could, Ummmm.....in fact I do unless visitors cook or bring food....salads and good bread with butter....and a glass of white of course..☺
I'm a bit like gness, now there is just the two of us it gets a bit boring and don't get me started on "What are we having for lunch and dinner today" I used to love it when the kids were at home. I love baking, jam, preserve and ice cream making.
Ahhh...now that is important for me....as Talbot says....around the table...x
Seafood and salad and spuds :-)
Talbot...I won't say what we call that sort of food :-D
I love the social aspects of eating with family or friends, but the food itself is of very little importance.

I tend to eat very bland food, and my diet is not good at all - too much carbohydrate and junk, very little fresh.

The present Mrs Hughes on the other hand adores her food. When we go on holiday, she likes the check the dinner menu after breakfast so she can look forward to it all day - an experience I have never had.
I just eat to live, not live to eat...Very little pleasure at all nowadays thanks to my irritable insides.

Talbot, not keen on Sunday roast??? We always have a traditional Sunday lunch, with the "best" plates and cutlery. even though usually it's just the two of us. Last Sunday was rack of lamb; we have a kind of informal rota moving through beef, pork, chicken, pheasant, lamb and so on. Anyone else do this?
Biggest issue we have is the fight to get to the cooker, we all love to cook. My wife its all straightforward stuff but I like to experiment, Indian, Italian, French classics some Vietnamese food as well...... love a good pho.

It's still one of life's few pleasures
Good food gives me pleasure. I enjoy sharing with friends. I rarely ate anything as a child but now I LOVE food and I'm a vegetarian so I love trying new dishes.
Have you tried knitting, Slappy?.....☺
Only with Spaghetti G... ;0) xx
I like the whole thing, growing it, cooking it, eating it, at home or out.
I like to try new things recipes and foreign dishes I haven't tried before.

It all has to be good quality though - I won't eat a cheap sausage or pie with god knows what in it.

Agree, Sunday Dinner is important, it's just that in our house it's not always on a Sunday, depends what we're doing!
I love a good home made pie
