Whilst out and about today I noticed the car in front of me with the registration AR51EFX.

I thought registrations that made questionable words weren't permitted?

I used to see one back in the old country that was BU51 KOW. Always amused me.

One that I used to see as I left slimming club was FAT 1 always made me a little more determined - well for a day or 2
Many years ago, my dad's boss's number plate was UPH1M.

The only registration plate that I've seen and coveted is "S1 LLY". I'd love to have that on my car!

I always thought Cherished Numbers were very ostentatious until my family bought me one for my 60th birthday.

It starts P44 followed by my initials. 44 being my birth year, and as 4's tend to represent A's, it looks like PAA which is what my grandchildren call me.

All quite appropriate really.
We had a big yellow Cortina with the number starting UCK you can imagine what was put in front of it everytime we went out!
H15 CAR, is on a car near me.
I seem to recall that Paul Raymond bought Fiona Richmond the 70's porn model a yellow E-Type Jag registration FU 2.
They used to with hold registration numbers 1 - 21 and any that were swear words etc (on the old way of doing number plates). Sometime later they started selling them off.
Pick up truck drives around near us which has livery on it for something to do with boats. Reg plate is IG02SEA. Appropriate.
The local drain cleaning business have a wagon registration 4POO.
Many US states allow drivers to choose their own 'license plates'. (That's a deliberate use of American spelling, btw!).

There are meant to be rules prohibiting anything inappropriate but their authorities don't always understand British slang . . .
