I went to the garage to get some screen wash. Got back to the car prepared to refill the reservoir. I have never had any cause to open the bonnet of this particular car.

Sat in the driver's seat and spent a good ten minutes looking for some kind of bonnet release catch. I couldn't look in the handbook as I didn't have my glasses with me. I waited for a man to come onto the forecourt, only women arrived. Two tried to help but they couldn't find it either.

I gave up in the end and drove home. I still don't know where it is.

To open the bonnet, pull the release
lever located below the instrument panel
on the driver’s side.
The bonnet will then be unlocked and
will partially open. Return release lever
to its original position

Thank you. I looked there....couldn't see it. The only lever I could find was the steering wheel lever.
Happened to me once. I borrowed a Ferrari Dino 246. Lots of interest everywhere I went. Pulled into petrol station to fill up. Walked round and round the car trying to work out how to open the filler cap. Found the handle inside the car eventually!
Why do they hide it? The least that they could do is put labels on things on the dashboard. All too complicated.

You feel such a fool, don't you Grassy?
This thread says that it's on the passenger's side:

My bonnet release catch is doing a very good job of hiding, Woof. They should colour code things.
Jesus wept!

And yet we still let Women drive unaccompanied!

Chris, that link doesn't work for me. It says the question no longer exists. Thanks anyway.

How am I supposed to know where it is when I've never had cause to use it?

I'm going to have to go outside and fetch the handbook, I think.

Hopefully it will also show me where to put the screenwash...........:-)
I think sometimes the handbooks are based on foreign cars, so it might be the opposite side to what it says.

I'll have a look tomorrow, Clover. Thanks for the suggestion. All I know is....it ain't where you'd expect it to be!

I might have to go the the Vauxhall dealership garage and 'pretend' to be even more dopey than I have been today.
That link works fine for me!

The question (from 6 years ago) reads as follows:
" How do you open the bonnet on a 2011 vauxhall meriva?
User manual is missing as it's a hire car. No obvious lever to pull or button to press. Please note it is the latest model which seems to differ to the 09/10 model"

Best Answer was given to this:
"The release lever is under the glovebox on the passenger side. It's hard to see so you need to get under there to see it as its the same colour plastic as the dashboard"
PS: It could have been worse. I've known people spend ages trying to find the bonnet release lever on those Ford cars and vans which simply don't have one! (You need to rotate the badge on the bonnet, insert the car's ignition key into the lock which will then be revealed, turn it one way and then the other).

Thanks for that Chris. I didn't scrabble around too much on the passenger side and neither did my two lady helpers.

Thanks for the other info regarding the Ford. Glad it's not just me!
Been there, done that. So don't fret.
Should've gone to specsavers.
The first time I had to fill my last car with petrol I had to sit and look through the handbook in the garage forecourt to find out how to unlock the cap
