Made by Enoch Powell ,very controversial for its time but a lot of it is happening with no controlled immigration nor any government in power or opposition ,willing to tackle it ,it’s seen as a poison chalice

Baz //see the lies being used by MSM, to push blacks and make them seem as if they got the world to where it is...//
Well it certainly was not the lazy white people!!
In my experience, people who consistently refer to black people as 'blacks', pretty much advertise their attitudes towards people who are not white, like them
so, yawn.
Question Author
Andy , saying coloured isn’t allowed either , blacks is multiple ,I think a black is derogatory but then I wouldn’t describe a single black person as blacks ….if you know what I mean :0/
////Powell was an ignorant reactionary racist bigot//

He was mabe a lot of things, but he wasn't ignorant. He was educated at King Edward’s High School, Birmingham and Trinity College, Cambridge: an outstanding student, he achieved sufficient scholarships to cover the cost of his education.

He was a fellow of Trinity College, Cambridge from 1934 to 1938 and was then appointed professor of Greek at the University of Sydney, making him the youngest professor in the British Empire. He published A Lexicon to Herodotus in 1938 followed by The History of Herodotus in 1939. He returned to England on the outbreak of war in order to serve in the Army.

In which at the age of thirty-two was one of the youngest brigadiers in the British army. He was awarded the MBE (military) in 1943 for ‘gallant and distinguished services in the Middle East’. His task was to assess intelligence reports and contribute to military planning – in effect to anticipate Rommel’s actions.
I find most ignorant people are frightened, but what of I don't know, black people having a little power or they being having better jobs.

Andy if you were to call a Black South African coloured they would not take kindly to it and let you know. I think I know what you are meaning though.
Powell died in 1998 aged 85. He was, apparently, a very clever man. Pity he'll only be remembered for his Rivers of Blood speech.
Powell was an ignorant reactionary racist bigot.

well he was a classicist ( o god like Boris? yup) and professor of greek in oz at 26 y.
when he was asked at Money college oxbridge, whether he wanted to come out and (foo!) , he said no I have come here to study

yeah foo ! chortled my parents who both had NOT gone to uni to study Yeah foo again they said when parents say something grindingly stupid.

He volunteered and joined up ( that is not joined up handwriting readers!) and said he wrote Latin and greek
so he was sent to the Cairo Arabic bureau - where he learnt arabic. I never heard him speak.

Then MP
In the treasury team that all resigned in protest to Mac*, 1962*.
which I THINK was stop-go(*)

1973 worried about immigration - Pop 50 m and the 1 m immigrants wd up to thirty years, increase 3m - which is triple the percent of 50m
and David Frost ( for it was he) said " hold on, the pop 50m will go up innit

and Een said (You know, Enoch silly!) - no one will know what the total pop is - so I have taken it as static - 50m.

an David Frost said - this is witchcraft
an een ( enoch powell silly!) said - no this is the very distillation of human wisdom

(*)Mac- super mac, Harold Macmillan, inveterate liar according to others in his cabinet
* 1962 what happened den den?
* stop - go what dat den?
Instant one liners for ABers to coin about this thread

It's possible to be clever, academically, as Powell was, and still be an ignorant bigot, which he also was.
^^^True, he was what is known as a polyglot, that is to say a speaker of 5 or more languages he spoke English, German, French, Italian, Modern Greek, and Urdu, he even taught himself Welsh.

He loved India & the Indians & understood the schisms between all the different factions there, more than anyone else in British politics.

It's hard to see someone fluent in Urdu being a racist.
^^That was to maggie
According to the link - he didn't have the common sense to explain to people he wasn't a racist.
Great, to commemorate a 50 year old racist speech.

The truth: millions of Britons *** off to Australia, Canada and New Zealand for a tenner, which meant that our country invited the Caribbean and others in to our country to fill the skills gap that our emigrants created.
*** was the past tense of a clump of soil. "*** off" means "left".
Khandro - // It's hard to see someone fluent in Urdu being a racist. //

Why?

Learning a language simply means you can live and work more easily among its speakers.

It doesn't automatically mean you love them like brothers and don't harbour deeply unpleasant thoughts about their supposed desire to take over your own country,

That's a blast from the past!

Back in the early days when Steve and I, and a number of other journalists, were employed to write features on our respective sections.

Happy days.
