Made by Enoch Powell ,very controversial for its time but a lot of it is happening with no controlled immigration nor any government in power or opposition ,willing to tackle it ,it’s seen as a poison chalice

I was surprised to find it, andy. I googled "Don't knock Enoch" et voila!
Powell was an avowed racist. You can be fluent in Urdu as a white person and still have racist views.
He was a brilliant man intellectually and a great orator and at least he was upfront about his racism as you’d expect someone with a clear and keen mind to be.
Every time his inflammatory speech is dredged up it generates racist and inflammatory reactions as many if the comments here prove.
But the great thing is: he was wrong, because, despite all those pesky darkies everywhere, our rivers are bloodless and show every sign of staying that way
Andy, For a small part of my life Enoch Powell was my Member of Parliament, and he was a good one too. He spoke to the Indian population of Wolverhampton in Urdu. He was voted in as MP for a constituency with a high immigrant population.
Not bad for a 'racist'.
Shouting ‘racist’ and ‘bigot’ without providing evidence to support those charges is no argument. It simply smacks of virtue signalling - in effect saying ‘Look at me everyone - I’m not racist’.

I’d hazard a guess that Enoch Powell understood more about the impact that foreign cultures may have on the indigenous population than any of his critics give him credit for - or perhaps that’s something they don’t understand because all they see is colour. He was no fool - and I doubt very much that colour was the impetuous for that now infamous speech.
ichi //at least he was upfront about his racism//

Baloney! example please.
If you quote the 'River of blood' speech you don't understand it, or the circumstances when it was made.
He admitted he was a racist: that’s why I’m saying it. I’ve posted a link to the avowal before now.
Doesn’t mean he “hated” people of other races. It wasn’t race hate.
“I’d hazard a guess that Enoch Powell understood more about the impact that foreign cultures may have on the indigenous population than any of his critics give him credit for”

Plainly he didn’t. As I pointed out earlier.
But the fact that basically thought races could not coexist is very revealing
Ich, you just basically said what I said. Culture not colour. Whether he thought different cultures *couldn’t* co-exist, I doubt very much. I do however, think, he foresaw potential problems - and he’d have been right.
//But the fact that basically thought races could not coexist is very revealing//

and to a certain extent, pretty damn true.

Also read Virgil's Aeneid, to which the speech related; the river Tiber is a long way from Wolverhampton.

Also, have a go at the Koran.
//But the great thing is: he was wrong, because, despite all those pesky darkies everywhere, our rivers are bloodless and show every sign of staying that way//

Really? France anyone?
How many black immigrants were admitted to Ukraine?
I posted this on a different thread ... it will sit here nicely too.

Remember ... diversity is our strength, unity is fascism, open borders mean open minds and hearts. Immigration laden France burns and erupts into violent anarchy whilst immigrant controlled Poland lives peacefully through all the criticism of its policy. No word from Brussels where the incumbents are likely rather pleased to see Paris burn as they divvy out the spoils of the ponzi scheme. Meanwhile Micron blames computer games on the violence whilst partying and dancing to Elton John ditties. Did he eat cake? Tell me again who said “As I look ahead, I am filled with foreboding; like the Roman, I seem to see ‘the River Tiber foaming with much blood,”.
I have video evidence of a Mosque near me that have kept me awake all night since 2;30 in the morning until mid-day the following day.
The windows open and photos's of mega-phones etc.

The police don't wan't to know.
(They would if it was a church or a gathering of unbelelieveirs)

Trust me,
these people are dangerous.
Ive been imprissoned with these people.

'These people'?

What, all of them???
naomi, I believe Powell not only had the amazing vision but the courage to voice it. Racist or race-aware? It is up to the individual to translate what he said and did. I liked him for his forthright thinking and clarity. Oh to have MP's like that now...
What would be fascinating would be to ask Powell now if he thought he’d got it wrong and would he be honest enough to admit it?
There are sadly those who cleave to that speech who still secretly or not so secretly wish he had been.

//'These people'?

What, all of them??? //

The ones that I've come to know.
They started of with a shop. That shut down.
Now they have a mosque.
Not a problem.
Then they have holy days where they
Park anywhere they like...on pavements ,and
on parkland, anywhere they like!
I now have a problem!!!

They then keep me up all night with prayers that are broacast via megaphone. Yes, I have a problem.
I wish to sleep with my windows open Andy, Not have to put ear plugs in,
Ah, so not all of them.

Good, I wouldn't like to see you being accused of stereotyping.
I honestly couldn't give a stuff what anyone beleives or doesnt believe.
But when it impacts my sleep, then
stuff you!
I Don't need to hear prayers to Allah from the local Mosque at 2 in the morning anymore than I need to hear church bell at 6 on a sunday morning.

Fair enough.
Ever since the Romans we have had waves of immigration into the British Isles. Here are a few Angles, Saxons, Vikings, Normans, Jews from across Europe, French Hugenots, Irish in the 19thC. After the second world war, from the Caribbean and South Asia.
What is so hard to understand? Human history is all about movement of peoples from one place to another. With the coming climate breakdown it will just increase
