...oh dear Sir Beer will not be so smug today as he has been in recent weeks. I am confident we can now turn this round and win the 2024 General Election. Go Rishi!

theshedman - it's fairly common practice to ask people if they'd like to resign before you sack them; it looks better on their CV. Just about all the ministers resigned yesterday; Sunak would have sacked them if they hadn't.
From what I can see on this thread the resident left hate Suella for whatever reason. That means for me she is the correct choice.

Anyone actually heard her speak outside of public broadcasts I wonder?
Ken Clarke should be kicked out of the Tory party. It's not the party he wanted to see it become & he continually briefs against it. Damn savage...
I agree, Clarke is not a Tory he should have moved across the floor decades ago.
I know that bhg481, the thing is if she did leak or send confidential info a way that she knew she shouldn't then why has she now been given the same job again in such a short space of time. For me youngmaflog it has nothing to do with hate just wondering why she is back in the job so soon after quitting one way or another.

10cs: "Didn't you vote for Liz Truss, TTT? Now you've copied her flip-flopping! PMSL! :o) " - yes but guess what, she's out so then I supported Boris, he didn't stand so then Penny, she stood down. Who is left? take your time. The overriding fact that you lefties cannot comprehend is that the reasons the Tories usually win is that they move with the sands. We elected the favoured candidate, now he wisely unites the party with his cabinet choices. We fall in behind and start to attack the common enemy, Labour. What do you expect? All those that supported any other candidate to get on a soap box on speakers corner and spout bile? You lefty types really are clueless no wonder you haven't won an election since 1974. The fact is you and your ilk know your chance has now gone. Labour won't win in 2024. Anyone heard from Captain H in the last few days?
Was the sending of the emails just a deliberate ploy to let her resign and get out of the cabinet?

prerseverer: "Was the sending of the emails just a deliberate ploy to let her resign and get out of the cabinet? " - yes, she saw Truss was on the way out and wanted to distance herself. So she resigned over a minor transgression and at the time she was called a coward etc by some. Now she's back they are are digging it up and using it to attacker her. The media are trying to have it both ways. Just let her get on with getting those Rwanda flights taking off.
Had Johnson acquired 100 backers he would have stood. Had Mordaunt acquired 100 backers, she would have stood. And, in both instances, Sunak would never have stood a chance had it then gone to the members.
Thanks to Lady Luck, neither did, so the members never got their chance to remind Sunak just what they think of him. Phew!
I repeatedly asked on these pages whose economic plans were best for the country - those of Sunak or those of Truss - but all i ever got in reply was 'ABS'.
Time will tell whether those MPs who finally realised Sunak was the country's best bet, are right. No matter what your political alliance is, we have to hope they are.
I don't think Johnson would have stood even with 100 backers, for the reasons previously stated.

From Tora:
"The overriding fact that you lefties cannot comprehend is that the reasons the Tories usually win is that they move with the sands. "

This is exactly what Labour did under Tony Blair, but according to you that isn't Labour ;-)
I am very surprised btw that Pennty Mordaunt didn't get Home Office or FCO.
I think I must be the only person on here who rates Michael Gove. He's a clever man and not as gormless as he looks sometimes:-)
I rate him.
He is very able. I don't think he appears gormless at all btw.
Smamy a bit certainly. he was right to call out Boris Johnson at the time. Unfortunately Mr J came back later
I wouldn't trust Gove as far as I could throw him. Slimy little man.
Pleased to hear I'm not alone Ich.

This is the sort of picture I mean.

ich: "This is exactly what Labour did under Tony Blair, but according to you that isn't Labour ;-) " - Yes but their move was to become the tories and that is the only way Labour can win.
I'm with Naoimi @10:32. He is a total toad.

But, keep your friends close but your enemies closer.
Quite a good effort for him, Roy.
Any idea what he meant by 'Go figure'?

All I know is that if Trump had said
it, Spice...it would have been racist.
Just saw a photograph of Rishi's new cabinet. Great photo of the cast of It Aint Half Hot Mum. I know I shouldn't have, but I had to laugh.

...nice little bit of racism there maggie.
Gove has been brilliant for me. His department has saved me and many others thousands of pounds by protecting Leaseholders from unfair cladding costs.
