Even Transport for London, thinking that they were acting in a true PC fashion, by including a small Muslim character in their £2million campaign for schools and nurseries, were later forced to withdraw the cartoon.

Agree Danny this is just another muslim bashing thread!
I think we're straying into la la land again so.....I'm out.

Dare I say it but it seems that only
Zacs-Master seems to have got the gist of this.
Thanks AOG. I think because it was you posting, people think it was an anti Muslim thread. Patently obvious that some people have commented without reading the article.
Sorry I disagree AOG but if a 5 yr old wears a hijab what's it to do with us..free world an all that!
Aaaaaaargh. It's not them WANTING to wear one, it's them being FORCED to as part of a school uniform.

Jeez, it's hard work on here sometimes.
You seem stressed zacs have a lay down m8
We all have the gist of it- and i'm not concerned with "muslim-bashing". If people are wrong, they are wrong -of whatever religion. What disgusts me is the idea that a 5 year old girl can be "sexualised" by wearing this.
ZM, the link says 'allowed' where does it say girls are forced to wear the hijab?
They're not being forced they are allowing them if they want to wear them

Can't you see that it is the Muslims who are complaining, because the Hijab is worn by Muslim women in an attempt to make them less sexually attractive to the opposite sex.

At what age then does a Muslim girl start wearing a hijab?

This from the Sunday Times:

Thousands of state primary schools are allowing girls as young as five to wear the Muslim religious headscarf as part of approved school uniform, a Sunday Times survey has revealed.

The rise of the classroom hijab has alarmed female Muslim campaigners, church leaders and academics. They say it is divisive, sexualises young girls because it is traditionally not worn until puberty, and should be “fiercely resisted”.

Ofsted, the schools watchdog, said there was “growing concern” about the trend. Inspectors are investigating whether head teachers have come under pressure from parents or religious leaders to change uniform regulations.
Not sure how wearing a hijab can "sexualise a child ?"
Me either Mikey
Don't bother, mikey... I keep asking that and they don't know.
This is in the true tradition of getting the "Muslim issue" into the DM, in any form possible.
The hijab is not a compulsory item of clothing in Islam so the schools are allowing it to become a part of the school uniform to appease parents who want their child to wear it. It's a pity they don't offer the same consideration to boys who want to wear shorts when it's too hot or ban children from school when they have the "wrong"( unaccepted by the school) haircut.
