fiction-factory, more frustration than sarcasm. I have no problem with countries designating days of mourning, but rather than getting to grips with the fundamental problem, Europe is working only to prevent attacks. This year alone almost 10,000 migrants have arrived in Spain by sea from Africa, and the Spanish authorities have a clue who they are. Nevertheless they let them in.
*haven't*
I agree about better barriers at the border of course, Talbot, but in the short to medium term it's generally not relevant to these atrocities which are normally done by those who were either born in Europe or came as children (let's not have the migrant 'children' discussion/jokes here).
Yes, I think Europe needs to take a stand, intercept and return boats, and cease to carry out rescues when they are clearly migrants and in time the practice of sending boats/rafts/dinghies across may be far less frequent.
But of course it's not the main issue with these sort of dreadful attacks which are generally not carried out by those coming across now
Do we know the full background to these terrorists yet? Are they all home grown then?
fiction-factory, //in the short to medium term it's generally not relevant to these atrocities which are normally done by those who were either born in Europe or came as children//

“Generally”? Well, that’s alright then. María Jesús Vega, a spokeswoman for UNHCR Spain said ““What we’re asking is for there to be the right mechanisms in place to ensure people are treated with dignity when they come,”

…. and it’s people like her who exacerbate the problem. Europe has to start saying ‘No’.

youngmafbog , //Do we know the full background to these terrorists yet? Are they all home grown then? //

As I’ve said many times, Islamists don’t recognise geographical boundaries. Islam is Islam. Where they’re born or where they come from is completely irrelevant.
I haven't heard yet but we know one is Moroccan who was a Spanish citizen.
It doesn't matter, ummmm.
I don't think we know, YMB. Why, has someone suggested they are all home grown or do you have information that they were let in recently perhaps? All we know is most such attacks have been carried out by peopel who were born or grew up here so there is a big problem internally that we need to get to grips with.
There are of course problems with illegal migration from Africa but the two problems are not related in the short to medium term, although of course some of today's migrants may become the parents of future jihadists in a generation from now
Islam knows no boundaries, I know Naomi.
I'm glad we agree naomi.
I didn't say it mattered, Naomi!
fiction-factory, I’m not sure we do agree. You say you know but you continue to talk about ‘home grown’ and say the two problems are not related in the medium term. They are related. Islam is here, yes, but it is also being imported on a daily basis.
Ummmm, good. It doesn't.
I just can't imagine, who on earth could justify the murder and maiming of innocent people.
My heart go's out to all the victims.
You only have to remind yourself of the born and raised Christian who slaughtered Lee Rigby. It doesn't matter where you were born or how you were raised. It's brainwashing...
That horse bolted along time ago. I think that even if we were to stop all immigration of brown people into Europe tomorrow Naomi we would still find that the number of Muslims would continue to grow. We only need to look at what's happening in our local schools. Tackling illegal immigration is of course necessary but it's a drop in the ocean really- we need to think about the tens of millions of existing Muslims in Europe and the potential for some to become jihadists.
although of course some of today's migrants may become the parents of future jihadists in a generation from now

You mean exactly as what is happening right now?
fiction-factory, the horse has bolted, and continues to bolt, so what do we do? Roll over and die or abandon our high-flying and self-destructive notions of respect for a culture that is totally alien to western life, or acknowledge the fundamental problem openly and honestly, and deal with it? Incidentally, colour isn’t relevant.
>although of course some of today's migrants may become the parents of future jihadists in a generation from now

>You mean exactly as what is happening right now?

yes, so let's address the issues of those already here and hopefully prevent future generations being susceptible to brainwashing
